John 13:22-24
John 13:22-24 King James Version (KJV)
22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
John 13:22-24 New International Version (NIV)
22 His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. 23 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. 24 Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.”

22 They were thinking of who it could be none of them would have thought it was them with the exception of perhaps Judas who was the one who did betray Jesus. To be betrayed would have been least expected, as much as the Pharisees tried to get Him as much as people followed Him, it only happened because it was a part of His plan.
23 Some say this is John but the truth is we do not know who the beloved disciple is some say it is Lazarus who scripture says that Jesus loved him and after he is brought back from the dead is no longer mentioned, some say it is one of Jesus younger family members but we are unclear because scripture does not say.
24 Peter knew that this disciples was close to Jesus so Peter wanted to know and thought that Jesus would tell this beloved disciple. Peter thought this disciple may have been favored, Peter does not think that it may be this disciple but thinks that this disciple simply can find out.
