John 11:45;48
John 11:45-48
KJV 45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. 46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. 47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. 48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
Rotherham 45 Many therefore from among the Jews, who had come unto Mary, and gazed on what he did, believed on him 46 but, certain from among them, went away unto the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done. 47 The High-priests and Pharisees, therefore, brought together a high-council, and were saying—What are we to do, in that, this man, doeth, many signs? 48 If we let him alone thus, all, will believe on him, and the Romans will come, and take away, both our place and nation.

45 This is referring again to Mary the sister of Lazarus. Jesus just did the unexplainable something no one thought could have been done, He raised the dead, Lazarus had been dead for days there was not denying he was dead and He had him risen. People saw with their eyes the power of God.
46 These people may have tried to convert the Pharisees because of the known problem they had with Christ, also some of the Pharisees were people who saw Jesus as being used by God, people such as Nicodemus. They may also want to cause Jesus to take rule of Israel from Rome and going to the Pharisees would have started this, if it was why Jesus came.
47 It was a big subject for something to have to call this meeting, they were deciding what to about Christ, this was the last legal thing they would do under the law concerning Christ, they broke the laws God gave in convicting Jesus. Jesus causes people to ask questions but these people were asking these questions because of trouble.
48 This was the real concern, their own power and how Rome viewed them, later we learn Rome did not care about Christ, because He was not setting up an earthly kingdom. Their later came a time Rome could not over take Christ, Christians would later become stronger than Rome itself, Rome is no longer an empire but Christians still praise the Lord today.
