Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Folks, I am entering in to a 40 day prayer. I receive a wonderful devotional each and every day, from a Pastor Frank, and I wanted to share with you what he said in today's devotional:
WOW! Did I need to hear this.
I also received this daily devotional in my email, from Dr. Charles Stanley:
We need to be Christians, that LIFT one another up, to the FATHER. There are way too many Christians, that waste precious time and effort trying to tear someone down. If you are one that does this, you need to STOP IT! Time as we know it, is growing short, and there are plenty of people who are lost and dying, watching you. Ask yourself: What is my TESTIMONY and WITNESS, to them? If it is negative, then there is some heart changing that needs to take place. It is time to purge yourself, and get a clean heart, prepared to SERVE the LORD.
It isn't about us. It is about serving the ONE, who can and does SAVE us, from all unrighteousness. We all fall short of the GLORY of GOD. There is not a single Christian, that has been made equal to GOD, nor will we ever be completed, in this lifetime. We need so desperately, to get down on our faces, and really seek the LORD, to make necessary changes, from within.
What we show the world, is who we really are. You can't hide behind a mask, and pretend to be something your not. What we show them, comes from our hearts. The words we speak, often give our hearts away. The BIBLE tells us, that the tongue, a little member, can destroy all that is good. Is your tongue in check?
Righteousness, comes by following GOD'S WORD. Can you honestly say, that you follow the TEACHINGS of CHRIST? You know, the words that are written in RED, in most BIBLES? If you are missing one point, the WORD says, that one sin, is breaking all sins. WHOA? That means, that you are the same as a murderer, or something just as vile! It is time, for Christians, to really seek the LORD, while HE is yet to be found.
I'm doing this 40 days of prayer, to ask the LORD to pull on our heart strings, and to motivate Christians, everywhere, to put on the FULL ARMOUR of GOD. Let's stop play acting, and get down to the FATHER'S BUSINESS.
Psa 100:4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name.
No matter what!
No matter what you see in the natural!
No matter what you feel in your emotions!
No matter what a Christian did or did not do correctly!
WOW! Did I need to hear this.
I also received this daily devotional in my email, from Dr. Charles Stanley:
The Nature of Discouragement
Psalm 16:7-11
Discouragement is a powerful, destructive force. Before we can understand how to rid our lives of this deadly landmine, we must recognize its harmful nature.
Understand that discouragement...
1. Is something we choose. Nobody else can make us discouraged; it is a choice that we alone make when facing disappointments.
2. Is universal. Everybody will face periods of disappointment and discouragement from time to time. This simply cannot be avoided, because we live in a seriously flawed world that is filled with equally flawed people.
3. Can recur. Sometimes we think we've settled an issue, which later resurfaces when we least expect it. Or, we may have old emotional wounds that are torn open by something a person says or does.
4. Can be temporary--or it can destroy our life. The choice is ours. If we refuse to deal with discouragement head-on, we are opening the door for it to completely dominate our life.
5. Is conquerable. With the Lord's help, we can choose not to be discouraged. If we don't believe discouragement can be conquered, then we're actually saying that God doesn't want His children to have a rich and fulfilled life.
Are you stuck in the throes of discouragement? If so, it will simply be impossible to experience the peace and inner joy that God wants for His children. Let Him help you out of that lowly state: start by believing that the Father wants to lift you up and get your life back on track with Him.

Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
DEAR FATHER, we are a needy people. We believe the TRUTH of your WORD, and yet, we miss the mark, of living the WORD. Forgive us, FATHER, when we fail to see others, as YOU see them. FATHER, I ask you to draw all YOUR Children, into UNITY through the HOLY SPIRIT. Remove all unrighteousness from our hearts. Forgive us our shortcomings, and help us, to also be forgiving to others, that come against us. Clean us from the inward parts, outward. Let our WITNESS and TESTIMONY, be for YOUR GLORY. Let others see, CHRIST in us, and not just what we do or say. Let CHRIST be our MANTLE. Teach us, to see others as YOU see them. Oh LORD, there are so many people who are lost and dying, even among YOUR Children, and we often don't open our mouth's and speak YOUR TRUTH to them. Give us BOLDNESS, to be a WITNESS to them, and to watch over, as YOU would have us be. Renew YOUR Church, YOUR People, and put YOUR WORDS within our hearts and mouths, so that when we speak, it is YOU who is SPEAKING. Release afresh, the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING in each of YOUR Children. We give you PRAISE, HONOR and GLORY! Thank you FATHER, for sending JESUS, to die in our place, and by HIS BLOOD, we are SET FREE, from all sin. Teach us, to take the WORD, and make it apart of us. LIFT us up, from the miry clay, O' LORD. Stand us UPRIGHT, before you. PROVIDE a VISION, for us, and make our PATHWAY CLEAR, before us. Don't allow any one of us, to stumble, or falter. Thank you FATHER, for all YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO, for YOUR CHILDREN. In JESUS Name, AMEN.

Susan, I am joining with you in prayer for the next 40 days as you go through a period of healing and allowing the Lord to guide you and lead you. I am on your side. Amen and Amen! xoxox Rose
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Thank you Rose.
A dear friend of mine, Brother Waqar Daniel, quoted this SCRIPTURE to me, when he heard that I was entering into this 40 day prayer.
Joshua 3:5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.
I believe this to be TRUTH. Even today, the LORD wants HIS Children, to be SANCTIFIED, and HE wants to DO WONDERS among us.
I agreed to read through the Book of Joshua, with him, while doing this 40 days of prayer.
Here are some outline notes, from my BIBLE, regarding the BOOK of Joshua:
GOD expects faithfulness to HIS BOOK
He uses an unlikely example of FAITH to prepare HIS People to take the land.
HE PROVIDES VICTORY, when HIS People repent and obey.
HE divides the land, before rest is done.
HE REWARDS a FAITHFUL leader.
HE provides JUSTICE for the accused, in refuge cities.
HE provides for the Priests.
HE FULFILLS ALL HIS PROMISES.
HE calls HIS People to choose the LOVE RELATIONSHIP OF COVENANT.
There are some who are doing a fast, while I pray, there are others that are joining in this 40 days of prayer. It is a HUGE THING, for me, and I can't help but see the LORD'S HAND, in all of this.
Dear FATHER, I thank you for YOUR WORD. For within the PAGES, there is LIFE. The WORD, gives us a LIGHT for our PATHWAY. THANK YOU for giving us, YOUR WORD. LORD, hide this WORD within our hearts and minds. Guide YOUR People, who are called by YOUR NAME, to DRAW CLOSER to the WORD and to YOU, in the coming days, weeks, months and years; that YOU have allotted us. GUIDE every step that we make, as Christians. Help us, to see the PATHWAY CLEARLY, and to have a CLEAR VISION of what you would have us do, for YOUR KINGDOM'S sake. LORD, we need a VISION, that allows us to see the world as YOU do. We need to HUNGER after YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, and draw our strength, from YOUR MERCY AND GRACE. Some of us have forgotten, that YOUR MERCY and GRACE, is what has SAVED US. REMIND us O' LORD of the many BLESSINGS that YOU have given us. Don't let our self-righteousness, stand between YOU and what YOU, and YOUR WILL for us. Renew the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING, upon us. Set our hearts on FIRE, sent from HEAVEN above. We need to set the COURSE STRAIGHT, get our EYES SET upon the PRIZE, and WORK towards the PROMISES, and GOAL that YOU have given to us. LORD, remove every obstacle from our pathway. LORD, I also know that division has caused YOUR Children, to stray away from YOUR WORD, and from the TRUTH found within ITS PAGES. GUIDE us gently back to the TRUTH and let everything else fade away. Make us into USEFUL VESSELS. LORD, we are so needy, and self serving. REPLACE all that needs to be REPLACED within us. If sin is prevailing, remind us, so that we can ask forgiveness. LORD, I ask, that while this process is taking place, that YOU will give us a STRONG DESIRE, to KNOW YOU and SERVE YOU. Thank you for sending JESUS, to die in my place. Thank you that all my sins are UNDER THE BLOOD. Thank you, that while I was yet in sin, YOU have a PLAN for REDEMPTION. I will GLORY in YOUR PRESENCE, though the world may turn against me. I will STAND ready an prepared, in the FULL ARMOUR of CHRIST. Thank you FATHER, for LOVING me. THANK YOU for loving us all, so very much. Thank you for all YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING, and WILL DO. In JESUS NAME, AMEN

Dealing With Discouragement
Psalm 42:1-8
How can we conquer discouragement? Let me suggest nine specific steps:
1. Look within. Prayerfully examine yourself for the underlying cause.
2. Admit that you are discouraged. It's easy to avoid, ignore, or lie about it. But denial is deadly, and it guarantees failure.
3. Identify precisely what you are discouraged about. Name it; then face it.
4. Recall the nature of discouragement. Disappointments will come and go, but discouragement is a choice that you make.
5. Begin meditating frequently on God's Word. This way, you can accurately judge what you feel by what is real (Psalm 3:2-4; 16:7-8; 63:6-8; 77:12; 119:15).
6. Take your area of discouragement to God in prayer. Ask Him to reveal what He wants to teach you in this area of your life.
7. Focus on God, not your situation. Ask Him to help you see this disappointment and its lessons from His perspective.
8. View the cause as coming from the Lord. If we understand that He allows disappointments, we can find an opportunity for growth, even in trouble.
9. Confess these three truths aloud: The Father is with me in the pain; He's in control of my life and has allowed this for a reason; He is a good God, who will turn this disappointment into blessing.
Discouragement may sound harmless enough, but don't ever underestimate its destructive power. By keeping watch, you can avoid this deadly trap. So write down these nine steps on an index card, and then review the list whenever disappointments start to consume your thinking.

The Importance of Character and Integrity
from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
Proverbs 20:7 - "The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
This world says if we could just arrange conditions where we never have any sorrow, pain, or hurts, then we could change men. If we can change conditions, we can change character. But the Bible teaches just the opposite. The world puts the emphasis on condition. God puts the emphasis on character. Someone has well said you can't purify the water by painting the pump. And yet that's what we try to do. We think that if we can change the exterior or make conditions such that we never have any hurts, then we're going to be okay. But Jesus put the emphasis upon character — on what you are, not what you have.
ACTION POINT:
Is there someone in your life you admire? Someone who is a person of integrity? Praise God for His work in that person’s life and give him or her a word of encouragement. From

Susan, here is a verse for this situation, I also posted elsewhere
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
AMEN!

AMEN Rose! Looking up and in PRAISE and WORSHIP.
I am reminded yet again, of this verse in Joshua, that was shared with me, at the beginning of this 40 days of prayer:
Joshua 3:5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

I this is posted on the forum, but it bears repeating. It has a POWERFUL MESSAGE for ALL Christians.External Causes of Discouragement
Colossians 3:21
Discouragement can hit us from many angles, depleting our energy and productivity. Wise believers will learn to detect its sources in order to avoid this paralyzing effect. Today, let's examine some external causes.
1. Unresolved disappointments. This applies to letdowns caused by our own failed expectations or someone else's.
2. Constant criticism. When we are criticized frequently, it is natural to think, What's wrong with me? Yet, unless God reveals a truth in the comments, we must learn to let them go.
3. The feeling that no one's listening. The natural response to this is rejection.
4. The sense that we aren't appreciated after doing our best. We can get so tied to our work that someone's failure to acknowledge our efforts feels like a personal rebuff.
5. Bad working conditions. Many believers enjoy what they do but pick up on coworkers' cruelty, bitterness, or refusal to recognize their efforts. This can make it extremely difficult to get motivated about going to work each day.
6. Lacking opportunities to shine. A job that doesn't make the best use of one's gifts and abilities can wear a person down. So can tight-fisted management that limits freedom to make innovations.
Oftentimes, it's the people we see every day who seem to have the most power for causing discouragement in our lives. Read through the list again. Do any of the above scenarios sound disturbingly familiar? If so, pray for the strength to face these external discouragers with renewed confidence.

Fellowship of the Unashamed
This text was found on a scrap of paper in the home of an African pastor shortly after he was martyred.
I am a part of the "Fellowship of the Unashamed." The die has been cast. The decision has been made. I have stepped over the line. I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still.
My past is redeemed, my present makes sense and my future is secure. I'm finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap giving and dwarfed goals.
I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on His presence, love with patience, live by prayer and labor with power.
My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my Guide is reliable and my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I won't give up, shut up, let up or slow up until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up and spoken up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till He comes, give till I drop, preach till all know and work till He stops me. And when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me. My banner is clear: I am a part of the "Fellowship of the Unashamed.
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Dear FATHER, thank you for this day, for YOUR GRACE and MERCY, continues to FLOW FREELY, to all who seek YOUR FACE. Let us draw ever closer to YOU. I can't help but PRAISE you for EVERYTHING that YOU DO, for each of YOUR children! It never ceases to amaze me, the MIRACLES of LIFE, that we see, as our children are born and grow into adults, with families of their own. The smiles and hugs, from our grandchildren, can melt us. Yet, this was all apart of YOUR PLAN for us. You show us, how to LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY, though our children and grandchildren. TRULY we are BLESSED beyond measure! Yet, FATHER, we often, forget to show this same UNCONDITIONAL LOVE for one another. Why do we do this, LORD? Help, us, as Christians, to grow in this area, so that we are WALKING in the FULLNESS of YOUR WORD. We are indeed, needy people. We NEED YOU, MORE each day. Put YOUR WORDS in our mouths, so that when we speak, it is YOU SPEAKING through us. Remove whatever hinders our walk, and make our PATHWAY CLEAR. HIDE the WORD, in our hearts, so that it is every present with us. TEACH us, YOUR WAY, for it is surely not the way of this world. Let us, see through YOUR EYES, and have COMPASSION with YOUR HEART. Free us from the enemy's attacks. Be our STRENGTH, when we are weak. Make us into PETER, and PAUL, and others who understood, that they didn't have to be perfect, to be USEFUL. Give us a VISION, to reach the lost and dying world, in JESUS NAME. Let us be willing to PROCLAIM, JESUS is LORD! FATHER, we thank you for sending JESUS to us. HE is our REDEEMER, MESSIAH, and we love HIM, and YOU, so very much. Build upon our hearts, with this LOVE, and let it SPILL over, into all we do or say, each day. Give us all that we need, to sustain us. Thank you FATHER, for the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING. For giving us an INTERCESSOR, when we don't know how or what to pray. Thank you for the angels that watch over us, and do YOUR BIDDING. Thank you, for CREATING within us, CLEAN HEARTS. THANK YOU for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO, IN JESUS NAME. AMEN.
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Amen and in agreement with all the above. We are going to get the victory because the LORD is the one who will be doing the work. Oh how wonderful to just let go and let God!

Day 4
Today's devotional and a quote that I receive daily both really struck me, with the TRUTH SPOKEN in them. I share these, so that others can see, that it is important to have a daily devotional, and sometimes from different sources. You know that the LORD is in them, when they come together in UNITY!
Dear FATHER, we thank you for the day, that YOU have given us. Thank you for our hearts being stirred, to be more the Child, that YOU want us to be. Thank you for tearing down STRONGHOLDS of this world, and replacing all the ugly thoughts, deeds and past, with YOUR LOVE and YOUR LIGHT. LORD, make us more than just people, but make us into YOUR PEOPLE, a PECULIAR PEOPLE, that is SET APART from the world. Let YOUR LIGHT SHINE through us, into this dark world, and LET all we DO or say, be YOUR WORDS, in us. Guide us, in our thoughts, prayers and STUDY of your WORD. Let us be MINDFUL of all that is GOOD. Let YOUR GRACE and MERCY be with us, and may it pour onto those who are suffering and lost. LORD, there are days, when the enemy attacks us, that we often just need to STAND, and ALLOW YOU, to FIGHT our BATTLES. By STANDING, we are standing on YOUR WORD, by FAITH. Draw your Children into UNITY through the HOLY SPIRIT. Let them get past all the differences in the of doctrines of men, and come into the FULLNESS of YOUR WORD. Let us, STAND SHOULDER TO SHOULDER, in the BATTLE for the lost and dying world. Let JESUS be our BANNER. HE is our HERO. Let the desires of this world, lessen in us, as we GO FORTH. Thank you FATHER, for your HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING. THANK YOU FATHER, for sending JESUS, to take our place in death and the grave. THANK YOU, for PREPARING a WAY for SALVATION. Let us remain STEADFAST, FOCUSED, and READY to SPEAK on YOUR BEHALF. Open the EYES of YOUR People, so that we SEE what you see. Open our ears, so that HEAR, what YOU SAY. Open our hearts to RECEIVE YOUR WORD. Thank you for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. In JESUS NAME, AMEN.

"Resisting the devil" does not mean "rebuking" him by shouting at him. It refers to a godly lifestyle of submission to God, a break with the friendship of the world, and a spirit of personal humility.

Soldiers for Christ
2 Timothy 2:1-4
Today's passage is from Paul's letter to Timothy. The apostle encourages the young man--and, by extension, every believer--to face difficulty as a good soldier. The military term "soldier" implies that we are in a battle. And in fact, the combat started before Adam and Eve's lifetime.
We see the first evidence when almighty God, who had created all the celestial beings, nevertheless allowed Satan and other angels (thereafter known as "demons") to rebel against Him. They established their own kingdom and waged war with the Lord.
Later we see this strife extend to all humankind. In the Garden of Eden, Satan tempted Eve to violate God's command by eating forbidden fruit. Her disobedience corrupted mankind's innocence, and ever since, all human beings have been born with a nature bent away from the Lord--and with a profound need for a Savior.
Tempted by Satan in the wilderness, Jesus modeled how to be victorious in spiritual conflict: by means of Scripture. God's Word gives us everything we need to win--from offensive and defensive weapons (Eph. 6:10-17) to the proper perspective on our adversaries' real identity: "Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the . . . spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places" (v. 12).
When we see ungodliness in our society, the Enemy may at times seem to be winning. Yet we who are saved have assurance that we belong to Him who is greater--and who will have the final victory (1 John 4:4; John 16:33). View daily battles biblically and look to God, who is mightier than all evil.

Day 5
Three specific battlefields. One internal, one external, and one eternal.
DEAR FATHER, thank you for this day, and for all that YOU have GIVEN us. I thank you that we can look to our Pastors, Church leaders, and each other, for guidance, when life throws us a curve ball.. Most of all, I thank you, that YOU have GIVEN us, and INSTRUCTION MANUAL, in YOUR HOLY WORD. Teach us, YOUR WISDOM and give us YOUR UNDERSTANDING, when we face everyday battles. Our HOPE remains STEADFAST upon YOUR REDEEMING GRACE and MERCY. LORD, allow our hearts to remain READY and WILLING, to RECEIVE YOUR WORD. Open our eyes and ears to YOUR TRUTH. If there be any malice, within us, LORD we ask for it to be removed. Let us do well, by taking an inventory of our self first, before casting judgment on others. Remind us, too, that YOUR RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT, is what we must seek. THANK YOU LORD, for YOUR WORD, and that we can STAND upon the WORD, during the difficult times, we face. It is a BALM that HEALS us, and gives us PEACE that SURPASSES all understanding. LORD, YOUR WAYS, are surely not our ways. We thank you, for being the ONE we can run to, and call out, ABBA FATHER. Thank you, that YOU WIPE AWAY EVERY TEAR from our eyes, and YOU FORGIVE us, when we are also willing to ask for forgiveness, and when we are willing to forgive others. If there be any hidden sins, today LORD, we ask you bring it to our remembrance, that we will be willing to let go of that sin, and seek forgiveness. LORD, let us have a CLEAN HEART before you, so that we can DO YOUR WILL. I ask for UNITY within YOUR people, to begin today. Thank you for the JESUS, who is our REDEEMER. Thank you for the COMFORTER, who INTERCEDES for us, when we don't have the right words, to say. Thank you for all that YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. In JESUS NAME, AMEN.

The Conflict
2 Timothy 4:6-8
Spiritual combat is going on all the time. It is important for believers to be aware of this conflict in order to battle sin effectively and live in a manner pleasing to the Lord.
The struggle exists in three areas. First, we have an internal enemy. Ever since the fall in the garden of Eden, the human heart does not naturally seek after God. But His Spirit can draw us and move our thoughts toward Him. However, even after salvation, we will have the capacity to do wrong as long as we remain in this carnal body. Scripture names evidence of the old "flesh" patterns at work within us, such as immorality, impurity, jealousy, and outbursts of anger (Gal. 5:19-20).
Second, there exists an external enemy: the system of ungodly beliefs, attitudes, and philosophies all around us. First John 2:15 gives a stern warning: "If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." As believers in Jesus, we should be salt and light to the society around us while not allowing its ways to influence our thoughts or behavior.
Third, there's an infernal enemy--namely, Satan. His desire is to dishonor God and to gain victory over the Lord's kingdom. We know from Scripture that this will not happen, but the conflict will continue until the final days mentioned in Revelation.
Be aware of these three enemies. You wouldn't sleep in the midst of a raging war, and neither should you live without awareness in the daily spiritual battle. Today's passage gives the specifics for standing firm in Christ: Arm yourself with God's Word, and seek His protection and wisdom.

"Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide."—Genesis 24:63.
VERY admirable was his occupation. If those who spend so many hours in idle company, light reading, and useless pastimes, could learn wisdom, they would find more profitable society and more interesting engagements in meditation than in the vanities which now have such charms for them. We should all know more, live nearer to God, and grow in grace, if we were more alone. Meditation chews the cud and extracts the real nutriment from the mental food gathered elsewhere. When Jesus is the theme, meditation is sweet indeed. Isaac found Rebecca while engaged in private musings; many others have found their best beloved there.
Very admirable was the choice of place. In the field we have a study hung round with texts for thought. From the cedar to the hyssop, from the soaring eagle down to the chirping grasshopper, from the blue expanse of heaven to a drop of dew, all things are full of teaching, and when the eye is divinely opened, that teaching flashes upon the mind far more vividly than from written books. Our little rooms are neither so healthy, so suggestive, so agreeable, or so inspiring as the fields. Let us count nothing common or unclean, but feel that all created things point to their Maker, and the field will at once be hallowed.
Very admirable was the season. The season of sunset as it draws a veil over the day, befits that repose of the soul when earthborn cares yield to the joys of heavenly communion. The glory of the setting sun excites our wonder, and the solemnity of approaching night awakens our awe. If the business of this day will permit it, it will be well, dear reader, if you can spare an hour to walk in the field at eventide, but if not, the Lord is in the town too, and will meet with thee in thy chamber or in the crowded street. Let thy heart go forth to meet Him.

"And I will give you an heart of flesh."—Ezekiel 36:26.
A heart of flesh is known by its tenderness concerning sin. To have indulged a foul imagination, or to have allowed a wild desire to tarry even for a moment, is quite enough to make a heart of flesh grieve before the Lord. The heart of stone calls a great iniquity nothing, but not so the heart of flesh.
"If to the right or left I stray,
That moment, Lord, reprove;
And let me weep my life away,
For having grieved thy love"
The heart of flesh is tender of God's will. My Lord Will-be-will is a great blusterer, and it is hard to subject him to God's will; but when the heart of flesh is given, the will quivers like an aspen leaf in every breath of heaven, and bows like an osier in every breeze of God's Spirit. The natural will is cold, hard iron, which is not to be hammered into form, but the renewed will, like molten metal, is soon moulded by the hand of grace. In the fleshy heart there is a tenderness of the affections. The hard heart does not love the Redeemer, but the renewed heart burns with affection towards Him. The hard heart is selfish and coldly demands, "Why should I weep for sin? Why should I love the Lord?" But the heart of flesh says; "Lord, Thou knowest that I love Thee; help me to love Thee more!" Many are the privileges of this renewed heart; "'Tis here the Spirit dwells, 'tis here that Jesus rests." It is fitted to receive every spiritual blessing, and every blessing comes to it. It is prepared to yield every heavenly fruit to the honour and praise of God, and therefore the Lord delights in it. A tender heart is the best defence against sin, and the best preparation for heaven. A renewed heart stands on its watchtower looking for the coming of the Lord Jesus. Have you this heart of flesh?
DEAR FATHER, thank you for this day, and for all that YOU have GIVEN us. I thank you that we can look to our Pastors, Church leaders, and each other, for guidance, when life throws us a curve ball.. Day 6
Dear FATHER, we thank you for this day. We thank you that even when the enemy attacks, we still can rest in YOUR PRESENCE. FATHER, when we have done all that is required of us, by YOUR HOLY WORD, YOU call us, to FORGIVE UNCONDITIONALLY. Teach us, how to let things go, and FORGIVE, as YOU have FORGIVEN us. HIDE YOUR WORD within our heart and mind, and teach us YOUR WAYS. For, if we depend upon our own understanding, we fail so miserably. Make our PATHWAY STRAIGHT. Guide our steps, lest we fall. into the tempter's traps. LORD, I especially ask favor on our brothers and sisters, who have gotten off the PATH of RIGHTEOUSNESS, that YOU would quickly guide them back. The GATE is NARROW and the PATH also. If we do anything to harm another's walk, let us be quick to resolve the issues, and when all else has been done or said, simply forgive, and ask for forgiveness. Others continue to say, REPENT, REPENT, but in their own hearts, they have held on to false teachings, malice, anger, resentment, and a lot more, than this. They fail to see, because the pathway has become dimmed, by sin. YOUR WORD, tells us, TRUE REPENTANCE, comes BEFORE YOU, FIRST. Create within us, a CLEAN HEART. Let us look inward to our own shortcomings, before we say, we have no guilt in this thing. We as humans, often take offense, and then we fail to see, the TRUTH of the MATTER, before us. LORD, HUMBLE us, while there is yet time. Remove all pettiness, of heart, from us. GUIDE your People, into UNITY, through the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING. Let not the sun go down, this day, with WRATH in my heart, towards anyone. LORD, I give all these things over to you, so that my WALK in YOUR WORD, is PLAIN before me. YOUR WILL, not my will, be done. Thank you FATHER, for LOVING us so very much. Thank you for JESUS BLOOD ATONEMENT, for all our sins, past, present and future. Thank you, that we can come to YOU, and YOU WILL HEAR our prayers, and HEAL our lands. Let this be a DAY of NEW BEGINNINGS for anyone, who has held onto bitterness, hatred, strife, or any other sins, lurking in the darkest corners of our being. CLEAN these VESSELS, make us HOLY BEFORE YOU. Use us, LORD, to reach a lost and dying world, in JESUS HOLY NAME. We GIVE YOU ALL PRAISE, HONOR and GLORY. Thank you for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. In JESUS NAME, AMEN.

from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
Matthew 19:26 - "With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
The Lord Jesus said, “Moreover if thy brother trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault” (Matthew 18:15). You say, “He’s the one that did wrong. If he wants forgiveness, let him come and ask for it.” But Jesus said, “No, you go to him.” Whether you are in the right or whether you are in the wrong, as a child of God, you are to go to that individual. Isn’t that what God did in the Garden of Eden? Adam and Eve sinned against God, and the Bible tells us that God came looking for them. “Adam, where art thou?” That was not the voice of a detective. That was the voice of a God Who pursues us to forgive us.
ACTION POINT:
Stop right now and ask God to show you if you have an unforgiving spirit toward someone. Then, in His power and strength, call that person and ask his or her forgiveness. It’s going to be impossible in your strength, but remember, God does the impossible.

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name."—Psalm 29:2.
GOD'S glory is the result of His nature and acts. He is glorious in His character, for there is such a store of everything that is holy, and good, and lovely in God, that He must be glorious. The actions which flow from His character are also glorious; but while He intends that they should manifest to His creatures His goodness, and mercy, and justice, He is equally concerned that the glory associated with them should be given only to Himself. Nor is there aught in ourselves in which we may glory; for who maketh us to differ from another? And what have we that we did not receive from the God of all grace? Then how careful ought we to be to walk humbly before the Lord! The moment we glorify ourselves, since there is room for one glory only in the universe, we set ourselves up as rivals to the Most High. Shall the insect of an hour glorify itself against the sun which warmed it into life? Shall the potsherd exalt itself above the man who fashioned it upon the wheel? Shall the dust of the desert strive with the whirlwind? Or the drops of the ocean struggle with the tempest? Give unto the Lord, all ye righteous, give unto the Lord glory and strength; give unto Him the honour that is due unto His name. Yet it is, perhaps, one of the hardest struggles of the Christian life to learn this sentence—"Not unto us, not unto us, but unto Thy name be glory." It is a lesson which God is ever teaching us, and teaching us sometimes by most painful discipline. Let a Christian begin to boast, "I can do all things," without adding "through Christ which strengtheneth me," and before long he will have to groan, "I can do nothing," and bemoan himself in the dust. When we do anything for the Lord, and He is pleased to accept of our doings, let us lay our crown at His feet, and exclaim, "Not I, but the grace of God which was with me!"

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"Ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit."—Romans 8:23.
PRESENT possession is declared. At this present moment we have the first fruits of the Spirit. We have repentance, that gem of the first water; faith, that priceless pearl; hope, the heavenly emerald; and love, the glorious ruby. We are already made "new creatures in Christ Jesus," by the effectual working of God the Holy Ghost. This is called the firstfruit because it comes first. As the wave-sheaf was the first of the harvest, so the spiritual life, and all the graces which adorn that life, are the first operations of the Spirit of God in our souls. The firstfruits were the pledge of the harvest. As soon as the Israelite had plucked the first handful of ripe ears, he looked forward with glad anticipation to the time when the wain should creak beneath the sheaves. So, brethren, when God gives us things which are pure, lovely, and of good report, as the work of the Holy Spirit, these are to us the prognostics of the coming glory. The firstfruits were always holy to the Lord, and our new nature, with all its powers, is a consecrated thing. The new life is not ours that we should ascribe its excellence to our own merit; it is Christ's image and creation, and is ordained for His glory. But the firstfruits were not the harvest, and the works of the Spirit in us at this moment are not the consummation—the perfection is yet to come. We must not boast that we have attained, and so reckon the wave-sheaf to be all the produce of the year: we must hunger and thirst after righteousness, and pant for the day of full redemption. Dear reader, this evening open your mouth wide, and God will fill it. Let the boon in present possession excite in you a sacred avarice for more grace. Groan within yourself for higher degrees of consecration, and your Lord will grant them to you, for He is able to do exceeding abundantly above what we ask or even think.
Success God's Way
Proverbs 3:5-6
What causes some people to fail and others to achieve their goals? Perhaps, as some hypothesize, family background, education, and ability are the main ingredients. But why, then, do we hear of victories from those with difficult backgrounds, disabilities, or little training? Surely, something else determines whether we accomplish our objectives.
Contrary to society's definition--which usually involves fame, fortune, or power--true success means becoming the people God wants us to be, and reaching the goals He has set for our lives. Hebrews 12:1 offers His perspective on this: "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."
Here, we see the keys to success. First, it is important to find encouragement from the lives of other believers who have seen Christ's faithfulness and followed His direction. Next, we should get rid of anything that holds us back from obeying God. Finally, we are to persevere, even through difficult or discouraging times. This passage
answers our original question: relying on Jesus for guidance and strength is what enables us to succeed.
God has a wonderful plan for blessing and fulfillment in your life, and part of His plan is that you live with purpose and perseverance. The Father's guidance will become clearer as you read His Word, pray for direction, and seek godly counsel. Do you know the goals the Lord has for you?

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
One evening I overheard my father and a friend of our family talking. The friend said, “What’s Adrian going to do when he gets out of high school?” My dad replied, “Well, he wants to go off to college and study to be a preacher.” That man just laughed and said, “He won’t make it. He’ll never stick it out. He’ll quit.” This was a man that I admired and respected very much. I almost felt like crying. That’s what the world says about Christians, “They won’t stick it out. They won’t make it.” You see, the devil hasn’t changed his tactics. He’s still mocking and throwing cold water on our walks with the Lord. Get ready. If you don’t feel the flames of ridicule now, just wait.
ACTION POINT:
Have you ever told someone that they wouldn’t amount to anything? Has anyone ever told you that? Send those lies back to the pit of hell and rest in the promises of His Word that you are deeply loved and bought with the price of the Savior’s own blood.

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"The mercy of God."—Psalm 52:8.
MEDITATE a little on this mercy of the Lord. It is tender mercy. With gentle, loving touch, He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He is as gracious in the manner of His mercy as in the matter of it. It is great mercy. There is nothing little in God; His mercy is like Himself—it is infinite. You cannot measure it. His mercy is so great that it forgives great sins to great sinners, after great lengths of time, and then gives great favours and great privileges, and raises us up to great enjoyments in the great heaven of the great God. It is undeserved mercy, as indeed all true mercy must be, for deserved mercy is only a misnomer for justice. There was no right on the sinner's part to the kind consideration of the Most High; had the rebel been doomed at once to eternal fire he would have richly merited the doom, and if delivered from wrath, sovereign love alone has found a cause, for there was none in the sinner himself. It is rich mercy. Some things are great, but have little efficacy in them, but this mercy is a cordial to your drooping spirits; a golden ointment to your bleeding wounds; a heavenly bandage to your broken bones; a royal chariot for your weary feet; a bosom of love for your trembling heart. It is manifold mercy. As Bunyan says, "All the flowers in God's garden are double." There is no single mercy. You may think you have but one mercy, but you shall find it to be a whole cluster of mercies. It is abounding mercy. Millions have received it, yet far from its being exhausted; it is as fresh, as full, and as free as ever. It is unfailing mercy. It will never leave thee. If mercy be thy friend, mercy will be with thee in temptation to keep thee from yielding; with thee in trouble to prevent thee from sinking; with thee living to be the light and life of thy countenance; and with thee dying to be the joy of thy soul when earthly comfort is ebbing fast.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"This sickness is not unto death."—John 11:4.
FROM our Lord's words we learn that there is a limit to sickness. Here is an "unto" within which its ultimate end is restrained, and beyond which it cannot go. Lazarus might pass through death, but death was not to be the ultimatum of his sickness. In all sickness, the Lord saith to the waves of pain, "Hitherto shall ye go, but no further." His fixed purpose is not the destruction, but the instruction of His people. Wisdom hangs up the thermometer at the furnace mouth, and regulates the heat.
1. The limit is encouragingly comprehensive. The God of providence has limited the time, manner, intensity, repetition, and effects of all our sicknesses; each throb is decreed, each sleepless hour predestinated, each relapse ordained, each depression of spirit foreknown, and each sanctifying result eternally purposed. Nothing great or small escapes the ordaining hand of Him who numbers the hairs of our head.
2. This limit is wisely adjusted to our strength, to the end designed, and to the grace apportioned. Affliction comes not at haphazard—the weight of every stroke of the rod is accurately measured. He who made no mistakes in balancing the clouds and meting out the heavens, commits no errors in measuring out the ingredients which compose the medicine of souls. We cannot suffer too much nor be relieved too late.
3. The limit is tenderly appointed. The knife of the heavenly Surgeon never cuts deeper than is absolutely necessary. "He doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men." A mother's heart cries, "Spare my child"; but no mother is more compassionate than our gracious God. When we consider how hard-mouthed we are, it is a wonder that we are not driven with a sharper bit. The thought is full of consolation, that He who has fixed the bounds of our habitation, has also fixed the bounds of our tribulation.
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Dear FATHER, Thank you for YOUR MERCY, that was POURED out upon us, at CALVARY. Thank you for YOUR GRACE, YOU GAVE to us, while we were yet sinners. We are at YOUR MERCY in all things. YOU ALONE are the GIVER of LIFE. How can we not see this? How can we not feel YOUR EVER PRESENT LOVE for us? It is TRUTH that sin, separates us from YOUR FELLOWSHIP. The enemy wants us separated, so that he can devour us. It is WRITTEN in YOUR WORD, that this is so. So, FATHER, why are we not willing to give into YOUR WILL, and seek YOUR FACE, in all matters. Forgive us, LORD when we fail so miserably. FATHER, TEACH us, YOUR WAYS. Remove every web of hatred, that is found in our tongues, so that when we speak, it is YOUR WORDS, that we say. Let this little member, be tamed, by YOU LORD. Because we know in the Book of JAMES, that YOUR WORD, says, that we can not tame it in and of ourselves. It takes DIVINE INTERVENTION. So, today, LORD, let us put the bridle and bit, of YOUR WORD, in our mouths. If there be any sin, within us, let this be the day, we repent of this sin. FORGIVE us, and LEAD us, not into TEMPTATION. Make our PATHWAY STRAIGHT, and GUIDE us with the LIGHT of YOUR WORD. FATHER, pour out the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING upon us, and let us be BOLDLY GOING about YOUR BUSINESS. Time is short, and we realize this. Thank you again for sending JESUS to die in our place. Thank you for RAISING HIM up from the grave, and SEATING HIM at YOUR RIGHT HAND. Father, we are but dust of the earth, without YOU, we would have no BREATH, no form or shape. Remind us, that the UNIVERSES that you have CREATED, are huge in comparison, to who we are, yet, YOU CHOSE to make us, in YOUR IMAGE. How much YOU must LOVE us! Let us return YOUR FAVOR and LOVE, by LEARNING YOUR WORD, LIVING YOUR WORD, and DOING YOUR WILL. We are YOUR HANDIWORK. There is none among us, that is not WONDROUSLY MADE. Thank you, for making us. FATHER, today, I want to focus on all the GOOD THINGS YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. In JESUS NAME, AMEN.

The Chief Tool of the Devil
from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
Psalm 25:15 - "Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord…"
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
There’s a story about the devil auctioning off his tools. He had a high price on pride, laziness, arrogance, hate, envy, and jealousy. But there was one tool that had a sign under it, “Not For Sale.” Someone said, “What is that tool, and why isn’t it for sale?” “Well,” he said, “I can’t afford to get rid of that one. It’s my chief tool, discouragement. With this tool, I can pry open a heart and once I get in I can do most anything I want.” Do you want me to tell you why you get discouraged? I’ll give it to you in a nutshell – you’ve taken your eyes off God!
ACTION POINT:
Are you discouraged? If not, praise God! And find someone who is so that you can give them the encouragement they need in Jesus Christ. Maybe it’s your next-door neighbor. Maybe it’s a co-worker. Maybe it’s your spouse.

Success Blockers
Isaiah 41:10-11
Yesterday we saw that our almighty God desires that we reach His goals for our lives. We also have an Enemy who would love to impede our progress.
Scripture identifies areas that can impede achievement. These include fear, doubt, excuses, procrastination, and laziness. If we know what the roadblocks are, it is easier to identify and overcome them in our lives.
First, when we experience fear--whether of failure, criticism, rejection, or anything else--our focus shifts from Jesus to the very thing we want to avoid. Such apprehension can become bondage. The antidote is to bring our focus back to the Lord.
Second, doubt is a lack of assurance that God will help us to succeed. Past failures, negative influences, and ignorance of His Word can all lead to this obstacle.
Third, excuses are an effort to make disobedience more comfortable. "I haven't had the breaks others have," "my parents didn't teach me correctly," and "I am too busy" are false justification, as was Adam's attempt to blame Eve for his bad decision.
Fourth, procrastination--or delaying an action that causes discomfort--also inhibits success. Related to that is a fifth roadblock: laziness. This ungodly behavior can, for obvious reasons, prevent our achieving God's purpose.
Wise people check their "path" to identify anything that inhibits following Christ fully. If any of the above roadblocks are impeding your success, push them aside. Find scriptures to help battle temptations. And ask God for strength so you can live freely and purposefully in the way He has planned.

C. H. Spurgeon
"Strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the Lord's house."—Jeremiah 51:51.
IN this account the faces of the Lord's people were covered with shame, for it was a terrible thing that men should intrude into the Holy Place reserved for the priests alone. Everywhere about us we see like cause for sorrow. How many ungodly men are now educating with the view of entering into the ministry! What a crying sin is that solemn lie by which our whole population is nominally comprehended in a National Church! How fearful it is that ordinances should be pressed upon the unconverted, and that among the more enlightened churches of our land there should be such laxity of discipline. If the thousands who will read this portion shall all take this matter before the Lord Jesus this day, He will interfere and avert the evil which else will come upon His Church. To adulterate the Church is to pollute a well, to pour water upon fire, to sow a fertile field with stones. May we all have grace to maintain in our own proper way the purity of the Church, as being an assembly of believers, and not a nation, an unsaved community of unconverted men.
Our zeal must, however, begin at home. Let us examine ourselves as to our right to eat at the Lord's table. Let us see to it that we have on our wedding garment, lest we ourselves be intruders in the Lord's sanctuaries. Many are called, but few are chosen; the way is narrow, and the gate is strait. O for grace to come to Jesus aright, with the faith of God's elect. He who smote Uzzah for touching the ark is very jealous of His two ordinances; as a true believer I may approach them freely, as an alien I must not touch them lest I die. Heartsearching is the duty of all who are baptized or come to the Lord's table. "Search me, O God, and know my way, try me and know my heart."

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"And they gave Him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but He received it not."—Mark 15:23.
A golden truth is couched in the fact that the Saviour put the myrrhed wine-cup from His lips. On the heights of heaven the Son of God stood of old, and as He looked down upon our globe He measured the long descent to the utmost depths of human misery; He cast up the sum total of all the agonies which expiation would require, and abated not a jot. He solemnly determined that to offer a sufficient atoning sacrifice He must go the whole way, from the highest to the lowest, from the throne of highest glory to the cross of deepest woe. This myrrhed cup, with its soporific influence, would have stayed Him within a little of the utmost limit of misery, therefore He refused it. He would not stop short of all He had undertaken to suffer for His people. Ah, how many of us have pined after reliefs to our grief which would have been injurious to us! Reader, did you never pray for a discharge from hard service or suffering with a petulant and wilful eagerness? Providence has taken from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke. Say, Christian, if it had been said, "If you so desire it, that loved one of yours shall live, but God will be dishonoured," could you have put away the temptation, and said, "Thy will be done"? Oh, it is sweet to be able to say, "My Lord, if for other reasons I need not suffer, yet if I can honour Thee more by suffering, and if the loss of my earthly all will bring Thee glory, then so let it be. I refuse the comfort, if it comes in the way of Thine honour." O that we thus walked more in the footsteps of our Lord, cheerfully enduring trial for His sake, promptly and willingly putting away the thought of self and comfort when it would interfere with our finishing the work which He has given us to do. Great grace is needed, but great grace is provided.
Dear FATHER, thank you for this day, which YOU have given to us. Each day is more precious than the day before. Thank you for guiding the path of this forty days of prayer, through men of GOD and their devotionals that help us understand the importance of living for YOU, daily. LORD, the enemy is encamped all around us, some have entered into the SANCTUARY. We ask you to remove the enemy's influences over us, and to help us stay focused upon JESUS and YOUR WORD. Remove all obstacles from our PATHWAY, so that we do not stumble. Help us to see, the enemy and all his bag of tricks, that cause us to fall. I'm so glad, to know YOU LORD, and that YOU ALONE are our BUCKLER and SHIELD, in the days of trial. Make us more like Job, who looked solely to YOU LORD, when he was tempted. You have given us many examples in YOUR WORD, that we can learn from. Let us, be wililng vessels, to learn these important life lessons. Today, is a NEW DAY, in YOU. We thank you for taking our past sins, and casting them away from us. Thank you for cleansing our hearts and souls. Now, FATHER, let YOUR WILL, be our WILL. Let YOUR EYES, be our eyes. Let YOUR HEART, be our heart. Let YOUR WORDS fill our mouths, so that others see JESUS in us, and through us. Let this day, be the BEGINNING of a RENEWED desire, in our hearts and minds, to SERVE YOU FAITHFULLY. Thank you for sending JESUS to take our sins away. Thank you for the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING, that is poured out, upon YOUR children. Thank you for MERCY and GRACE. Thank you LORD, for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING, and WILL DO. YOUR WILL BE DONE, In JESUS NAME, AMEN.

Day 9
http://www.lwf.org/Flourishing in Body, Soul and Spirit
from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
2 Corinthians 7:1 - "...dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves..."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
You were created to know three worlds — the spiritual, psychological, and material worlds. These can be considered the world above us, the world within us, and the world around us. These worlds are related to the three parts of our human nature — spirit, soul, and body. When you are rightly related to the material world with your body, you are healthy. When you are rightly related to the psychological world with your soul, you are happy. And when you are rightly related to the spiritual world in your spirit, you are holy. God’s aim is that ultimately you are to experience all three realities: health, happiness, and holiness.
ACTION POINT:
Take a snapshot inventory of your life. Where do you need to start making changes to live a healthier lifestyle? What is your emotional barometer telling you about how you see others and yourself? Do you know of any area in your life where you are not living in obedience to the call of holy living?

The Savior's Mission
John 14:6
Many believers know that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, but we should also understand His mission, how He fulfilled it, and what that means to each of us. Christ had a twofold goal in coming to earth as a baby: to provide us with a tangible image of who God is, and to die in our place to pay our penalty for sin.
What an incredible plan! The omnipotent, omniscient Lord had existed since eternity past (John 1:1, 14). And yet for a time, He set aside power and strength that were rightfully His, so that He could become like us. Because God-in-human-flesh lived His life before men, we can better understand our heavenly Father (Col. 1:15).
Through Christ's sacrifice, we are invited into an eternal relationship with God. You see, Scripture finds every descendant of Adam guilty (Isa. 53:6; Rom. 3:23), and the punishment for sin is death (Rom. 6:23). The penalty must be paid by the shedding of blood (Lev. 17:11). Yet the Father can accept nothing less than a perfect sacrifice
(Deut. 17:1). The Savior--who was fully God, fully man, and 100 percent innocent--died a humiliating, excruciating death to pay the debt we couldn't afford. He is the only one who could lay down His life to save us and bridge the gap between each person and the Father.
There is no possible way for us to earn our salvation. It is an awesome gift that the Father freely offers to each one of us. The only "condition" is that we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and follow Him. Have you chosen to accept this amazing blessing from the Father's hand?

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"He shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord."—Micah 5:4.
CHRIST'S reign in His Church is that of a shepherd-king. He has supremacy, but it is the superiority of a wise and tender shepherd over his needy and loving flock; He commands and receives obedience, but it is the willing obedience of the well-cared-for sheep, rendered joyfully to their beloved Shepherd, whose voice they know so well. He rules by the force of love and the energy of goodness.
His reign is practical in its character. It is said, "He shall stand and feed." The great Head of the Church is actively engaged in providing for His people. He does not sit down upon the throne in empty state, or hold a sceptre without wielding it in government. No, He stands and feeds. The expression "feed," in the original, is like an analogous one in the Greek, which means to shepherdize, to do everything expected of a shepherd: to guide, to watch, to preserve, to restore, to tend, as well as to feed.
His reign is continual in its duration. It is said, "He shall stand and feed"; not "He shall feed now and then, and leave His position"; not, "He shall one day grant a revival, and then next day leave His Church to barrenness." His eyes never slumber, and His hands never rest; His heart never ceases to beat with love, and His shoulders are never weary of carrying His people's burdens.
His reign is effectually powerful in its action; "He shall feed in the strength of Jehovah." Wherever Christ is, there is God; and whatever Christ does is the act of the Most High. Oh! it is a joyful truth to consider that He who stands to-day representing the interests of His people is very God of very God, to whom every knee shall bow. Happy are we who belong to such a shepherd, whose humanity communes with us, and whose divinity protects us. Let us worship and bow down before Him as the people of His pasture.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for Thou art my strength."—Psalm 31:4.
OUR spiritual foes are of the serpent's brood, a and seek to ensnare us by subtlety. The prayer before us supposes the possibility of the believer being caught like a bird. So deftly does the fowler do his work, that simple ones are soon surrounded by the net. The text asks that even out of Satan's meshes the captive one may be delivered; this is a proper petition, and one which can be granted: from between the jaws of the lion, and out of the belly of hell, can eternal love rescue the saint. It may need a sharp pull to save a soul from the net of temptations, and a mighty pull to extricate a man from the snares of malicious cunning, but the Lord is equal to every emergency, and the most skilfully placed nets of the hunter shall never be able to hold His chosen ones. Woe unto those who are so clever at net laying; they who tempt others shall be destroyed themselves.
"For Thou art my strength." What an inexpressible sweetness is to be found in these few words! How joyfully may we encounter toils, and how cheerfully may we endure sufferings, when we can lay hold upon celestial strength. Divine power will rend asunder all the toils of our enemies, confound their politics, and frustrate their knavish tricks; he is a happy man who has such matchless might engaged upon his side. Our own strength would be of little service when embarrassed in the nets of base cunning, but the Lord's strength is ever available; we have but to invoke it, and we shall find it near at hand. If by faith we are depending alone upon the strength of the mighty God of Israel, we may use our holy reliance as a plea in supplication.
"Lord, evermore Thy face we seek: Tempted we are, and poor, and weak; Keep us with lowly hearts, and meek. Let us not fall. Let us not fall."
http://www.spurgeon.org/morn_eve/this_evening.cgi
Thank you FATHER, that YOU are a SOVEREIGN GOD, who sits upon YOUR THRONE of MERCY and GRACE. Thank you, that JESUS is SEATED at YOUR RIGHT HAND. Thank you for the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING, that is given equally unto all YOUR Children. Let us ever be mindful, that YOU ALONE are our GOD. YOUR LOVE for us, is that of a SHEPHERD, who tends HIS FLOCK. Let us always be in communication with you. Let us HEAR YOUR VOICE, and KNOW YOU, better each day. Let us, seek YOUR FACE, and be able to come before YOU, with all our needs. We are such needy people, LORD. YOU CREATED each one of us. Help us, to GROW in YOUR LIGHT and LOVE. When we fall into the tempter's snare, we know that YOU ALONE, come to our rescue! Thank you LORD, for YOUR SAVING GRACE. TEACH us, YOUR WORD, and HIDE IT in our hearts. Let all we DO and SAY, be YOUR WILL, not ours. GIVE us what is needed, for us to bring in the HARVEST of SOULS. LORD, burden our hearts, for the lost and dying world. Let this be an automatic response from us. Remove all fears, and let us GO FORTH BOLDLY, PROCLAIMING YOUR WORD. If there be any sin, in us, let us be quick to repent of that sin to YOU. FATHER, we ask that every day, be a NEW DAY, to SERVE YOU in. Thank you for all these things and so many more. FATHER, POUR OUT YOUR BLESSINGS, upon YOUR children. Remind us, that EVERYTHING, is a GIFT from YOU. Thank you for LOVING us, so much that JESUS took our sins to CALVARY. Thank you LORD, that because HE was WILLING, to do YOUR WILL, we have the GIFT of SALVATION. LORD, we want others to know the LOVE, MERCY and GRACE, that YOU have GIVEN to us. Help us, reach these people who are dying each day, without JESUS in their hearts. Prepare their hearts, open their ears and eyes, to the TRUTH of YOUR WORD. Let YOUR LOVE, pour forth from us, to all people. We give YOU ALL HONOR AND PRAISE, because YOU ALONE ARE WORTHY! Thank you for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING, and WILL DO. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth, as it is in HEAVEN. In JESUS NAME, AMEN.

Day 10
Aug. 20, 2009
The Final Exam
Matthew 25:31-40
Pay attention because there will be a test later." Upon completing their schooling, most people are relieved not to have to hear those words anymore. Well, your testing days are not quite over, because God has a final exam for believers. Below is a brief "study guide" outlining what the Lord's faithful can expect at His judgment throne.
Questions. Examining each believer's life from the moment of salvation to death, God looks for answers to three questions:
1. How much truth did the person know?
2. How many opportunities did he or she have to use that truth?
3. What did the individual do with those opportunities?
So you see that we are actually preparing for the final exam right now. On judgment day, no excuses or arguments can stand, nor will anything unrighteous, selfish, or evil be permitted in God's holy presence. All we'll have to show is what we did in His name.
Rewards. Every person who receives Jesus Christ as Savior shares in the gift of eternal life. However, just as each one is judged by his or her own life, so are rewards given individually. Though the Bible is not specific about the nature of heavenly blessings, the promise of receiving them permeates its pages (Matt. 5:12, 6:4; 1 Cor. 3:8; Rev. 2:23).
Throughout life, our heavenly Father provides each of us with so many big and small ways to honor Him. Take my advice: Do not waste a single moment of preparation time! On the appointed day, you will want to stand before Him, certain that you used your opportunities to the fullest.
On Prophecy
Then the Lord said to [Moses], " . . . I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him. I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf. But any prophet who falsely claims to speak in my name or who speaks in the name of another god must die. But you may wonder, 'How will we know whether or not a prophecy is from the Lord?' If the prophet speaks in the Lord's name but his prediction does not happen or come true, you will know that the Lord did not give that message. That prophet has spoken without my authority and need not be feared."
--Deuteronomy 17:18-22 (nlt)
"And He said to them, 'O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! . . .' Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures."
--Luke 24:25-27
"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world."
--Hebrews 1:1-2
"But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God."
--2 Peter 1:20-21

BIBLE MEDITATION:
Colossians 3:17 - "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
The sign over the church door where I attended as a boy read, “The Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silent.” I mistakenly took that to mean that I had just entered the holy temple and had better start acting religious. We are the temple of God, not a building made of brick and mortar. Wherever we go, whatever we do, we are to be doing all in the name of Jesus. The secular is to be sanctified so that Jesus will be glorified in everything. Because He lives in you, every day is a holy day, not just Sundays. The spiritual life is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all eternity.
ACTION POINT:
Have you ever had a home appraised? Get a trusted friend or loved one to give you an appraisal of the home where the Holy Spirit dwells — you! Are there areas that need repair, restoration, or removal?

C. H. Spurgeon
"The sweet psalmist of Israel."—2 Samuel 23:1.
AMONG all the saints whose lives are recorded in Holy Writ, David possesses an experience of the most striking, varied, and instructive character. In his history we meet with trials and temptations not to be discovered, as a whole, in other saints of ancient times, and hence he is all the more suggestive a type of our Lord. David knew the trials of all ranks and conditions of men. Kings have their troubles, and David wore a crown: the peasant has his cares, and David handled a shepherd's crook: the wanderer has many hardships, and David abode in the caves of Engedi: the captain has his difficulties, and David found the sons of Zeruiah too hard for him. The psalmist was also tried in his friends, his counsellor Ahithophel forsook him, "He that eateth bread with me, hath lifted up his heel against me." His worst foes were they of his own household: his children were his greatest affliction. The temptations of poverty and wealth, of honour and reproach, of health and weakness, all tried their power upon him. He had temptations from without to disturb his peace, and from within to mar his joy. David no sooner escaped from one trial than he fell into another; no sooner emerged from one season of despondency and alarm, than he was again brought into the lowest depths, and all God's waves and billows rolled over him. It is probably from this cause that David's psalms are so universally the delight of experienced Christians. Whatever our frame of mind, whether ecstasy or depression, David has exactly described our emotions. He was an able master of the human heart, because he had been tutored in the best of all schools—the school of heart-felt, personal experience. As we are instructed in the same school, as we grow matured in grace and in years, we increasingly appreciate David's psalms, and find them to be "green pastures." My soul, let David's experience cheer and counsel thee this day.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"And they fortified Jerusalem unto the broad wall."—Nehemiah 3:8.
CITIES well fortified have broad walls, and so had Jerusalem in her glory. The New Jerusalem must, in like manner, be surrounded and preserved by a broad wall of nonconformity to the world, and separation from its customs and spirit. The tendency of these days break down the holy barrier, and make the distinction between the church and the world merely nominal. Professors are no longer strict and Puritanical, questionable literature is read on all hands, frivolous pastimes are currently indulged, and a general laxity threatens to deprive the Lord's peculiar people of those sacred singularities which separate them from sinners. It will be an ill day for the church and the world when the proposed amalgamation shall be complete, and the sons of God and the daughters of men shall be as one: then shall another deluge of wrath be ushered in. Beloved reader, be it your aim in heart, in word, in dress, in action to maintain the broad wall, remembering that the friendship of this world is enmity against God.
The broad wall afforded a pleasant place of resort for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, from which they could command prospects of the surrounding country. This reminds us of the Lord's exceeding broad commandments, in which we walk at liberty in communion with Jesus, overlooking the scenes of earth, and looking out towards the glories of heaven. Separated from the world, and denying ourselves all ungodliness and fleshly lusts, we are nevertheless not in prison, nor restricted within narrow bounds; nay, we walk at liberty, because we keep His precepts. Come, reader, this evening walk with God in His statutes. As friend met friend upon the city wall, so meet thou thy God in the way of holy prayer and meditation. The bulwarks of salvation thou hast a right to traverse, for thou art a freeman of the royal burgh, a citizen of the metropolis of the universe.
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Dear FATHER, we are a needy people. Lead us in YOUR WORD, with open hearts that SEEK YOUR TRUTH. Remove all that is not from YOU, in our lives, and help us to see YOUR PRECEPTS, for us. Forgive us, when we fail to see our mistakes and sinfulness. Guide all that we do or say, so that when we do speak, it is YOUR WORDS, coming forth from us. We thank you for the WONDER of YOUR WORD, that it never comes back void! Help us to DISCERN YOUR TRUTH in ALL THINGS. Let us endure the RACE, that is set before us. Remove obstacles from our PATH, and make the WAY STRAIGHT. We want to hear YOUR VOICE TENDERLY CALLING us. Remove all other noise and background clutter, so that we HEAR YOU CLEARLY. LORD, we ask again for a RENEWING of the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING. Guide every step we take, and let us DRAW NEARER to YOUR THRONE of MERCY and GRACE. Help us, when we are in the midst of our battles, to keep our FOCUS SET UPON YOU. We thank you, that these battles help us to learn, more about living daily for YOU. Let others see JESUS in us, instead of us. Separate us, from the world, and remove worldly desires from us. Yet, let us SERVE YOU, among the lost and dying world. How we want to become more like YOU. Teach us YOUR WAYS.YOU ALONE deserve ALL HONOR and PRAISE! Thank you, that we have a SAVIOR, JESUS, who is SEATED at YOUR RIGHT HAND. Thank you FATHER, for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. In JESUS NAME, AMEN.

Staying Focused on God's Plan for Your Life
from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
Philippians 3:14 - "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
The devil would love to get you distracted and get you off the course on which God has placed you. God has something He wants you to do and you had better not substitute the good for the best. Find out what God wants you to do and refuse to be distracted by the devil. You need to say as the apostle Paul said, “This one thing I do!” Know what it is that God wants you to do and do it with all your strength for His glory!
ACTION POINT:
Take a few minutes to write out a mission statement about your life focusing on “that one thing” (TOT) that you think God has called you to do. Then, post the letters TOT everywhere to remind yourself to stay focused on the calling of God in your life.

The Authority of Our Message
1 Kings 17:1
King Ahab’s first thought after encountering the prophet Elijah may well have been, Of all the nerve! Just who does this guy think he is? Bursting onto the scene out of nowhere, Elijah confronted Israel’s wicked king with a message that would soon disrupt life throughout the entire region.
The validity of the revelation rested with the Source, not the mouthpiece. Elijah was a man of great faith who believed what God told him; he could boldly speak with authority because he knew and trusted the One who gave the message. He spent time alone with the Lord and listened as he stood before Him.
Our Father doesn’t speak to us in exactly the same manner that He spoke to the Old Testament prophets, but the process of receiving His message hasn’t changed. It begins with being alone in His presence and involves listening as He speaks through His Word. But it shouldn’t end there.
Prophets had the responsibility of telling the people what the Lord revealed to them. Similarly, we are to share with others what we learn from God’s Word. Devotional time with the Lord is not just about our own interests and needs. The Father reveals His treasures to us so that we can share them with others.
Begin each day alone with God in His Word and in prayer, listening as He speaks to your heart. Believe what He says in Scripture, apply it to your life, and then share with someone else what He has revealed. Be bold and remember that the authority of your message comes from Him.

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"He that watereth shall be watered also himself."—Proverbs 11:25.
WE are here taught the great lesson, that to get, we must give; that to accumulate, we must scatter; that to make ourselves happy, we must make others happy; and that in order to become spiritually vigorous, we must seek the spiritual good of others. In watering others, we are ourselves watered. How? Our efforts to be useful, bring out our powers for usefulness. We have latent talents and dormant faculties, which are brought to light by exercise. Our strength for labour is hidden even from ourselves, until we venture forth to fight the Lord's battles, or to climb the mountains of difficulty. We do not know what tender sympathies we possess until we try to dry the widow's tears, and soothe the orphan's grief. We often find in attempting to teach others, that we gain instruction for ourselves. Oh, what gracious lessons some of us have learned at sick beds! We went to teach the Scriptures, we came away blushing that we knew so little of them. In our converse with poor saints, we are taught the way of God more perfectly for ourselves and get a deeper insight into divine truth. So that watering others makes us humble. We discover how much grace there is where we had not looked for it; and how much the poor saint may outstrip us in knowledge. Our own comfort is also increased by our working for others. We endeavour to cheer them, and the consolation gladdens our own heart. Like the two men in the snow; one chafed the other's limbs to keep him from dying, and in so doing kept his own blood in circulation, and saved his own life. The poor widow of Sarepta gave from her scanty store a supply for the prophet's wants, and from that day she never again knew what want was. Give then, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and running over.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye Me in vain."—Isaiah 45:19.
WE may gain much solace by considering what God has not said. What He has said is inexpressibly full of comfort and delight; what He has not said is scarcely less rich in consolation. It was one of these "said nots" which preserved the kingdom of Israel in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, for "the Lord said not that He would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven." 2 Kings 14:27. In our text we have an assurance that God will answer prayer, because He hath "not said unto the seed of Israel, Seek ye Me in vain." You who write bitter things against yourselves should remember that, let your doubts and fears say what they will, if God has not cut you off from mercy, there is no room for despair: even the voice of conscience is of little weight if it be not seconded by the voice of God. What God has said, tremble at! But suffer not your vain imaginings to overwhelm you with despondency and sinful despair. Many timid persons have been vexed by the suspicion that there may be something in God's decree which shuts them out from hope, but here is a complete refutation to that troublesome fear, for no true seeker can be decreed to wrath. "I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth; I have not said," even in the secret of my unsearchable decree, "Seek ye Me in vain." God has clearly revealed that He will hear the prayer of those who call upon Him, and that declaration cannot be contravened. He has so firmly, so truthfully, so righteously spoken, that there can be no room for doubt. He does not reveal His mind in unintelligible words, but He speaks plainly and positively, "Ask, and ye shall receive." Believe, O trembler, this sure truth—that prayer must and shall be heard, and that never, even in the secrets of eternity, has the Lord said unto any living soul, "Seek ye Me in vain."
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Dear FATHER, forgive us, when we seek YOU in vain. For we know that the enemy uses many things against us. Let us TREMBLE at YOUR TRUTH. We know that YOU ALONE are the LIVING GOD. Forgive us, when we fail so miserably. Let us put down these petty thoughts, and really dig into YOUR WORD. HIDE YOUR WORD, in our hearts, so that we KNOW IT and IT will FLOW from our mouths, a fresh. Guard our tongues, so that when we speak, it is YOUR WORD, that is spoken. LORD help us to understand that in YOUR WORD, there is LIFE MORE ABUNDANT. Give us AUTHORITY in YOUR WORD, like Elijah had. So that when we speak, it is the HEART of YOU LORD, that brings forth the message. We are lost and dying, if we pretend to know you. If there be any among our congregations, that are pretending LORD, we ask that you move that heart to REPENTANCE. If there is any sick, widowed or just hurting LORD, we ask that YOU would send us, to these person, and let YOUR LOVE SHINE through us. Do not allow us to become lazy in well-doing, but to use the TALENTS that YOU HAVE GIVEN us. Exercise our KNOWLEDGE of the WORD, and let us pour out freely, from the WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING found in YOUR WORD. FATHER, many of us have strayed far from YOUR NARROW PATHWAY. Guide us gently back on the NARROW PATH, that LEADS us, to YOUR THRONE of GRACE and MERCY. Let us, LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as YOU HAVE LOVED us. Send AFRESH, the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING, upon each of YOUR Children. Let us be the LIGHT in the darkness, going forth, to do YOUR GOOD WILL, among men. Let us have YOUR HEART, to reach the lost and dying world, for JESUS SAKE. Give all that is needed, TODAY and EVERYDAY, until the appointed TIME, when you shall call us home. THANK YOU FATHER, for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO, in JESUS NAME, AMEN.

God's Ways: Ordinary and Miraculous
1 Kings 17:2-7
God declared, "My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," (Isa. 55:. And in fact, one of the biggest frustrations of the Christian life has to do with a lack of understanding about God's ways. There are times when we could really use a miracle, and yet He does not come through for us. Unmet expectations lead to confusion, disappointment, and even anger. Why did God let me down?
There are two schools of thought regarding the miraculous. Some people don't believe God works miracles at all, while others are convinced that if He's not doing the miraculous every day, then something is wrong with their faith. We need a balanced perspective, which we find in the Bible.
God works in both supernatural and ordinary ways, and He determines the method. Elijah ate food miraculously delivered by ravens, but his water supply from a brook was completely natural. When the water dried up, the Lord could have made more spring from the ground, but He didn't.
Sometimes God uses ordinary means to move us in a new direction. The curtailment of his water supply opened the door for Elijah's next "assignment." When the Lord withholds miraculous intervention and lets your brook dry up, He has something else planned for you.
Seeing the work of God in the miraculous is easy, but He's just as involved in the commonplace aspects of life as He is in any supernatural event. Look for His "fingerprint" in the day's mundane activities. He is there, opening and closing doors, drying up one opportunity but initiating another.

BIBLE MEDITATION:
Romans 6:13 - "...yield yourselves unto God..."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
I heard about a man who entered an interstate out of a side road and did not even slow down. A big eighteen-wheeler pulled over, almost wrecking him. The truck driver leaned out of the window and yelled, “Hey, didn’t you see that sign?” The man said, “What sign?” The trucker said, “That sign that said, 'YIELD'.” “Oh,” he said, “I opened the window and 'yield' as loud as I could.” In the matter of victory, it is not your ability or your responsibility that counts. It is not even your response to His ability. You must choose to yield to Christ. You are to yield with all of your heart to the power, the presence, and the provision of the Lord Jesus Christ.
ACTION POINT:
Look up the definition of “yield”. What does it say about the right of way? Who has the “right of way” in your life? Bow before the Lord and surrender all of you to all of Him today.

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love."—Song of Solomon 5:8.
SUCH is the language of the believer panting after present fellowship with Jesus, he is sick for his Lord. Gracious souls are never perfectly at ease except they are in a state of nearness to Christ; for when they are away from Him they lose their peace. The nearer to Him, the nearer to the perfect calm of heaven; the nearer to Him, the fuller the heart is, not only of peace, but of life, and vigour, and joy, for these all depend on constant intercourse with Jesus. What the sun is to the day, what the moon is to the night, what the dew is to the flower, such is Jesus Christ to us. What bread is to the hungry, clothing to the naked, the shadow of a great rock to the traveller in a weary land, such is Jesus Christ to us; and, therefore, if we are not consciously one with Him, little marvel if our spirit cries in the words of the Song, "I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, tell Him that I am sick of love." This earnest longing after Jesus has a blessing attending it: "Blessed are they that do hunger and thirst after righteousness"; and therefore, supremely blessed are they who thirst after the Righteous One. Blessed is that hunger, since it comes from God: if I may not have the full-blown blessedness of being filled, I would seek the same blessedness in its sweet bud-pining in emptiness and eagerness till I am filled with Christ. If I may not feed on Jesus, it shall be next door to heaven to hunger and thirst after Him. There is a hallowedness about that hunger, since it sparkles among the beatitudes of our Lord. But the blessing involves a promise. Such hungry ones "shall be filled" with what they are desiring. If Christ thus causes us to long after Himself, He will certainly satisfy those longings; and when He does come to us, as come He will, oh, how sweet it will be!

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"The unsearchable riches of Christ."—Ephesians 3:8.
MY Master has riches beyond the count of arithmetic, the measurement of reason, the dream of imagination, or the eloquence of words. They are unsearchable! You may look, and study, and weigh, but Jesus is a greater Saviour than you think Him to be when your thoughts are at the greatest. My Lord is more ready to pardon than you to sin, more able to forgive than you to transgress. My Master is more willing to supply your wants than you are to confess them. Never tolerate low thoughts of my Lord Jesus. When you put the crown on His head, you will only crown Him with silver when He deserves gold. My Master has riches of happiness to bestow upon you now. He can make you to lie down in green pastures, and lead you beside still waters. There is no music like the music of His pipe, when He is the Shepherd and you are the sheep, and you lie down at His feet. There is no love like His, neither earth nor heaven can match it. To know Christ and to be found in Him—oh! this is life, this is joy, this is marrow and fatness, wine on the lees well refined. My Master does not treat His servants churlishly; He gives to them as a king giveth to a king; He gives them two heavens—a heaven below in serving Him here, and a heaven above in delighting in Him for ever. His unsearchable riches will be best known in eternity. He will give you on the way to heaven all you need; your place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks, your bread shall be given you, and your waters shall be sure; but it is there, THERE, where you shall hear the song of them that triumph, the shout of them that feast, and shall have a face-to-face view of the glorious and beloved One. The unsearchable riches of Christ! This is the tune for the minstrels of earth, and the song for the harpers of heaven. Lord, teach us more and more of Jesus, and we will tell out the good news to others.

Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Dear FATHER, make us sick with LOVE after THEE, as the poet pens the words, UPON our HEART, so that we will draw ever CLOSER to YOU. We thank you that YOUR WORD and YOUR WILL, go together, in perfect harmony. Teach us to dwell in the RICHNESS of YOUR WORD, and to long for YOUR WILL to be DONE. Our happiness, is in SERVING YOU, LORD. Guide each one of us, closer to YOUR THRONE of GRACE and MERCY. Don't let us loose sight of our FIRST LOVE, in CHRIST JESUS. Thank you for sending JESUS, to be our SAVIOR, LORD and MESSIAH. RENEW the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING within us. Give us YOUR HEAVENLY FIRE, to drive us, into YOUR PRESENCE. Remove all that is in us, that is not of YOUR WILL. MOLD us and MAKE us, as the POTTER to the CLAY. Replace our tears, with JOY. Replace our heartache, with PEACE. Give to us ALL that we NEED. Forgive us, when we fail you, and let us be quick to REPENT to YOU, FATHER. Also, let us be QUICK to FORGIVE others, as YOU have FORGIVEN us. Don't let us be foolish in believing we can hold someone who trespasses against us, when YOU have FREELY FORGIVEN ALL our SINS. Thank you that while we were yet sinners, YOU MADE A WAY, for us to be RE-UNITED to YOU, through CHRIST JESUS. Thank you, for this GIFT, that leads us into ETERNAL COMMUNION, with YOU. We seek YOUR FACE, and want to know MORE about YOU. Guide us in YOUR WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING of YOUR WORD. Remove all man's teachings, so that all that is left, is YOUR WORD, for us. Hide YOUR WORD in our hearts, so that all we do or say, is YOU SPEAKING through us. Let us YIELD our hearts, to YOU. Let YOUR EARS and EYES, become ours. We NEED YOUR DIVINE INTERVENTION, daily. Remove all obstacles from our path, and keep us on the NARROW PATH. We thank YOU FATHER, for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. YOUR WILL BE DONE, IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.

Day 13
Dear FATHER, I have had a sleepless night. YOUR WORD tells me, that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore, we are to put on the FULL ARMOUR of FAITH. Throughout the night, I have cried out to YOU, for the battles were raging, all around me. FATHER, I look forward to the day, when military tactics and war will no longer be needed. When men will beat their swords, into plowshares. Until this day comes, LORD, let us fight the GOOD FIGHT, on our knees, before YOUR THRONE of GRACE and MERCY. Let us, take what YOU HAVE POURED out upon us, and also show GRACE and MERCY, towards others. When we fail, let us be quick to ask for forgiveness. We are ever learning and seeking YOUR WILL, in our lives. I am not alone in this battle. I know that YOU are WITH me, and every Christian BELIEVER. Thank you FATHER, that the BIGGEST BATTLE, for our SOULS, was fought by CHRIST JESUS. HE suffered and died, because of my sins. And, HE ROSE AGAIN, from death and the grave, and VICTORIOUSLY, HE is SEATED at YOUR RIGHT HAND. Thank you for the COMFORTER, that YOU have sent to us. Pour out afresh, the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING. LORD, if there be any sins that remain, CLEANSE us, O' LORD. Let not the sun go down, upon any wrath within us. Let this be a day of NEW BEGINNINGS. TEACH us, YOUR WAYS, and let us WALK in YOUR PRECEPTS. Hide YOUR WORD, within our hearts, and let all we do or say, be PLEASING to YOU. Thank you for ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. Let YOUR WILL BE DONE. IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.

BIBLE MEDITATION:
John 12:32 - "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
For the first time in history, man is afraid of what he knows. His head and his hands have outrun his heart, and we are being faced with things for which we have no answers — the plague of AIDS, the tinderbox in the Middle East, the outbreaks of famine, the irregular weather disturbances, and much more. But, we don’t have to wring our hands and say, “What is the world coming to?” We can look up and say, “Who is the world coming to?” It’s coming to Jesus! Praise God!
ACTION POINT:
Call your church today and ask if there is a place where you can volunteer in the area of community outreach. Perhaps there is a soup kitchen, a nursing home, a homeless shelter, or a children’s center where you can serve.

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"The voice of weeping shall be no more heard."—Isaiah 65:19.
THE glorified weep no more, for all outward a causes of grief are gone. There are no broken friendships, nor blighted prospects in heaven. Poverty, famine, peril, persecution, and slander, are unknown there. No pain distresses, no thought of death or bereavement saddens. They weep no more, for they are perfectly sanctified. No "evil heart of unbelief" prompts them to depart from the living God; they are without fault before His throne, and are fully conformed to His image. Well may they cease to mourn who have ceased to sin. They weep no more, because all fear of change is past. They know that they are eternally secure. Sin is shut out, and they are shut in. They dwell within a city which shall never be stormed; they bask in a sun which shall never set; they drink of a river which shall never dry; they pluck fruit from a tree which shall never wither. Countless cycles may revolve, but eternity shall not be exhausted, and while eternity endures, their immortality and blessedness shall co-exist with it. They are for ever with the Lord. They weep no more, because every desire is fulfilled. They cannot wish for anything which they have not in possession. Eye and ear, heart and hand, judgment, imagination, hope, desire, will, all the faculties, are completely satisfied; and imperfect as our present ideas are of the things which God hath prepared for them that love him, yet we know enough, by the revelation of the Spirit, that the saints above are supremely blessed. The joy of Christ, which is an infinite fulness of delight, is in them. They bathe themselves in the bottomless, shoreless sea of infinite beatitude. That same joyful rest remains for us. It may not be far distant. Ere long the weeping willow shall be exchanged for the palm-branch of victory, and sorrow's dewdrops will be transformed into the pearls of everlasting bliss. "Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith."—Ephesians 3:17.
BEYOND measure it is desirable that we, as believers, should have the person of Jesus constantly before us, to inflame our love towards Him, and to increase our knowledge of Him. I would to God that my readers were all entered as diligent scholars in Jesus' college, students of Corpus Christi, or the body of Christ, resolved to attain unto a good degree in the learning of the cross. But to have Jesus ever near, the heart must be full of Him, welling up with His love, even to overrunning; hence the apostle prays "that Christ may dwell in your hearts." See how near he would have Jesus to be! You cannot get a subject closer to you than to have it in the heart itself. "That He may dwell"; not that He may call upon you sometimes, as a casual visitor enters into a house and tarries for a night, but that He may dwell; that Jesus may become the Lord and Tenant of your inmost being, never more to go out.
Observe the words—that He may dwell in your heart, that best room of the house of manhood; not in your thoughts alone, but in your affections; not merely in the mind's meditations, but in the heart's emotions. We should pant after love to Christ of a most abiding character, not a love that flames up and then dies out into the darkness of a few embers, but a constant flame, fed by sacred fuel, like the fire upon the altar which never went out. This cannot be accomplished except by faith. Faith must be strong, or love will not be fervent; the root of the flower must be healthy, or we cannot expect the bloom to be sweet. Faith is the lily's root, and love is the lily's bloom. Now, reader, Jesus cannot be in your heart's love except you have a firm hold of Him by your heart's faith; and, therefore, pray that you may always trust Christ in order that you may always love Him. If love be cold, be sure that faith is drooping.
As our love is the best thing we have, and none deserves it more than God, so let him have our love, yea, the strength of our love, that we may love him with all our souls, and with all our mind, and with all our strength.

Rely on the Source
1 Kings 17:8-16
From God's perspective, being in need can be spiritually beneficial. When the bottom drops out of our imaginary financial security bubble, we will discover the reality that all provision comes from His hand. The Lord uses various instruments to meet needs, but He alone is the source of all we possess or earn.
God can use traditional means--like an employer--or remarkable methods to supply our needs. Elijah had learned to live by faith in the unusual ways of the Lord: he'd been fed by ravens. Now God sent him to Zarephath, to a starving widow with no ability to feed him.
Every financial need is an opportunity to learn to walk by faith in the Lord as our source. Prosperity can lead to a sense of independence that blinds us to how inadequate we actually are to provide for ourselves. We're totally dependent upon the Father whether we know it or not.
Believing that God would provide, Elijah witnessed His miraculous intervention. We may not see the Lord perform a supernatural work in our financial situation. However, we can be sure that, just as God fulfilled His promise to Elijah, He'll be faithful to His Word in our situation as well: "My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:19).
Are you focusing on the instrument or the source of your provision? The means God uses may change, but His faithfulness endures forever. He's infinitely more reliable than any employer or 401K. The Lord is inviting you to trust Him and live in both the adventure and security of a life of faith.

BIBLE MEDITATION:
Psalm 119:162 - "I rejoice at Thy Word."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
Job said, “I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). When God’s Word is as important to you as your physical food, then you’re going to start to grow in your Christian life. I wonder if one day the dust on our Bibles is not going to testify against us. The following poetic lines sober my heart: “These hath God married and no man shall part, dust on the Bible and drought on the heart.” Oh, that we would hunger for the Word of God!
ACTION POINT:
Fast from one meal today. Sense just a touch of the hunger our hearts are to have for the Word of God, and remember to pray for those who need the pure milk of His Word!

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"The breaker is come up before them."—Micah 2:13.
INASMUCH as Jesus has gone before us, things remain not as they would have been had He never passed that way. He has conquered every foe that obstructed the way. Cheer up now thou faint-hearted warrior. Not only has Christ travelled the road, but He has slain thine enemies. Dost thou dread sin? He has nailed it to His cross. Dost thou fear death? He has been the death of Death. Art thou afraid of hell? He has barred it against the advent of any of His children; they shall never see the gulf of perdition. Whatever foes may be before the Christian, they are all overcome. There are lions, but their teeth are broken; there are serpents, but their fangs are extracted; there are rivers, but they are bridged or fordable; there are flames, but we wear that matchless garment which renders us invulnerable to fire. The sword that has been forged against us is already blunted; the instruments of war which the enemy is preparing have already lost their point. God has taken away in the person of Christ all the power that anything can have to hurt us. Well then, the army may safely march on, and you may go joyously along your journey, for all your enemies are conquered beforehand. What shall you do but march on to take the prey? They are beaten, they are vanquished; all you have to do is to divide the spoil. You shall, it is true, often engage in combat; but your fight shall be with a vanquished foe. His head is broken; he may attempt to injure you, but his strength shall not be sufficient for his malicious design. Your victory shall be easy, and your treasure shall be beyond all count.
"Proclaim aloud the Saviour's fame,
Who bears the Breaker's wond'rous name;
Sweet name; and it becomes him well,
Who breaks down earth, sin, death, and hell."

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution."—Exodus 22:6.
BUT what restitution can he make who casts abroad the fire-brands of error, or the coals of lasciviousness, and sets men's souls on a blaze with the fire of hell? The guilt is beyond estimate, and the result is irretrievable. If such an offender be forgiven, what grief it will cause him in the retrospect, since he cannot undo the mischief which he has done! An ill example may kindle a flame which years of amended character cannot quench. To burn the food of man is bad enough, but how much worse to destroy the soul! It may be useful to us to reflect how far we may have been guilty in the past, and to enquire whether, even in the present, there may not be evil in us which has a tendency to bring damage to the souls of our relatives, friends, or neighbours.
The fire of strife is a terrible evil when it breaks out in a Christian church. Where converts were multiplied, and God was glorified, jealousy and envy do the devil's work most effectually. Where the golden grain was being housed, to reward the toil of the great Boaz, the fire of enmity comes in and leaves little else but smoke and a heap of blackness. Woe unto those by whom offences come. May they never come through us, for although we cannot make restitution, we shall certainly be the chief sufferers if we are the chief offenders. Those who feed the fire deserve just censure, but he who first kindles it is most to blame. Discord usually takes first hold upon the thorns; it is nurtured among the hypocrites and base professors in the church, and away it goes among the righteous, blown by the winds of hell, and no one knows where it may end. O Thou Lord and giver of peace, make us peacemakers, and never let us aid and abet the men of strife, or even unintentionally cause the least division among Thy people.

DEAR FATHER, thank you for each provision that YOU GIVE to us. Thank you that in the midst of the storms, of this life, we can REST KNOWING, that YOU GO BEFORE us, into each storm and battle, making the way for us. YOU FIGHT our enemies, and keep us SUSTAINED. Let us learn to lean on FAITH, when things seem to be opposed to our being here. YOU PLACED us, where YOU want us to be. Let us make good use, of the time, that is allotted us, in this place. We ask for YOUR SUPERNATURAL BLESSINGS upon us, as we go out and come in. FEED and NOURISH us, with YOUR WORD. GUIDE our steps down the NARROW PATH, that LEADS to YOUR THRONE of MERCY and GRACE. Teach us, how to live outside our own understanding, and lean upon YOUR WILL , for us. Let our FAITH become an EXAMPLE for others, who are struggling. Let us become the LIGHT in the darkness, in reaching the lost and dying world. Let all we do or say, be EDIFYING to YOU. Let YOUR WORD, be our word. Let us have YOUR HEART, EYES and EARS, so that we can see, hear and feel for the world, as YOU DO. We are a needy people, LORD. We need YOU in our DAILY lives, and WALK. Thank you for sending JESUS, to be our LORD and SAVIOR. Thank you, that HE has CONQUERED death and the grave, for us. That all our sins, were NAILED to the CROSS, on CALVARY. That JESUS is SEATED at YOUR RIGHT HAND, and that HE WILL COME AGAIN! Thank you for the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING, that guides us in YOUR WAYS, and speaks on our behalf, when we don't know what to ask for. Thank you FATHER, for loving us, while we were yet sinners. Thank you for the GRACE, MERCY and LOVE that YOU GIVE, to each of YOUR children. Thank you FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. YOUR WILL BE DONE. IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.

Day 15
Aug. 25, 2009
Preparation for Greater Service
1 Kings 17:17-24
In Luke 17:5, the apostles asked Christ to increase their faith. The Lord told them that if they had faith as small as a mustard seed, they could do great things. God does not enlarge our faith instantly. He begins with what little we have and proceeds to grow it.
Elijah was in a faith-building program. The Lord gave him increasingly difficult challenges of reliance and obedience. Back at the brook, the prophet had to depend on the Lord for his own survival. But at Zarephath, he trusted God to provide for both himself and a widow. And in today's passage, he served her in an even larger way by raising her son to life.
Each act of believing God and the ensuing step of obedience resulted in increased opportunities for Elijah to serve the Lord and others. Raising the dead may seem like the height of his ministry, but it was to be followed by an even greater opportunity to influence an entire nation for God. Elijah was about to face the biggest spiritual battle of his life (1 Kings 18)--all his previous demonstrations of faith and obedience were the Lord's way of preparing him.
God wants each of us to be influential in His kingdom. He knows which faith challenges to present so that we can be entrusted with even greater tasks.
The Lord will provide occasions for you to believe Him and respond in obedience. These situations are what we call "problems." Begin to look at each difficulty as an opportunity designed by God specifically for the purpose of increasing your faith so He can do great things in and through you.

BIBLE MEDITATION:
Psalm 100:1 - "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
There’s nothing wrong with getting excited in church. I heard about a man who came to a cold church. The preacher said something he agreed with and he said, “Amen.” Everybody turned around and looked at him. After awhile he said, “Praise the Lord.” Then people arched their eyebrows. The next time he said “Amen” an usher tapped him on the shoulder to quiet him down. The usher said, “What is wrong with you?” He said, “Well, nothing. I’ve just got religion.” To which the usher curtly replied, “Well, mister, you didn’t get it here.” It’s easier to cool down a zealot than it is to warm up a dead man.
ACTION POINT:
What does it mean to make a joyful noise unto the Lord? How do you make a joyful noise to Him, not just on Sundays in church, but all week long? Why not start by singing one of your favorite hymns throughout the day today?

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"His fruit was sweet to my taste."—Song of Solomon 2:3.
FAITH, in the Scripture, is spoken of under the emblem of all the senses. It is sight: "Look unto me and be ye saved." It is hearing: "Hear, and your soul shall live." Faith is smelling: "All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia"; "thy name is as ointment poured forth." Faith is spiritual touch. By this faith the woman came behind and touched the hem of Christ's garment, and by this we handle the things of the good word of life. Faith is equally the spirit's taste. "How sweet are Thy words to my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my lips." "Except a man eat my flesh," saith Christ, "and drink my blood, there is no life in him."
This "taste" is faith in one of its highest operations. One of the first performances of faith is hearing. We hear the voice of God, not with the outward ear alone, but with the inward ear; we hear it as God's Word, and we believe it to be so; that is the "hearing" of faith. Then our mind looketh upon the truth as it is presented to us; that is to say, we understand it, we perceive its meaning; that is the "seeing" of faith. Next we discover its preciousness; we begin to admire it, and find how fragrant it is; that is faith in its "smell." Then we appropriate the mercies which are prepared for us in Christ; that is faith in its "touch." Hence follow the enjoyments, peace, delight, communion; which are faith in its "taste." Any one of these acts of faith is saving. To hear Christ's voice as the sure voice of God in the soul will save us; but that which gives true enjoyment is the aspect of faith wherein Christ, by holy taste, is received into us, and made, by inward and spiritual apprehension of His sweetness and preciousness, to be the food of our souls. It is then we sit "under His shadow with great delight," and find His fruit sweet to our taste.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest."—Acts 8:37.
THESE words may answer your scruples, devout reader, concerning the ordinances. Perhaps you say, "I should be afraid to be baptized; it is such a solemn thing to avow myself to be dead with Christ, and buried with Him. should not feel at liberty to come to the Master's table; I should be afraid of eating and drinking damnation unto myself, not discerning the Lord's body." Ah! poor trembler, Jesus has given you liberty, be not afraid. If a stranger came to your house, he would stand at the door, or wait in the hall; he would not dream of intruding unbidden into your parlour—he is not at home: but your child makes himself very free about the house; and so is it with the child of God. A stranger may not intrude where a child may venture. When the Holy Ghost has given you to feel the spirit of adoption, you may come to Christian ordinances without fear. The same rule holds good of the Christian's inward privileges. You think, poor seeker, that you are not allowed to rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory; if you are permitted to get inside Christ's door, or sit at the bottom of His table, you will be well content. Ah! but you shall not have less privileges than the very greatest. God makes no difference in His love to His children. A child is a child to Him; He will not make him a hired servant; but he shall feast upon the fatted calf, and shall have the music and the dancing as much as if he had never gone astray. When Jesus comes into the heart, He issues a general licence to be glad in the Lord. No chains are worn in the court of King Jesus. Our admission into full privileges may be gradual, but it is sure. Perhaps our reader is saying, "I wish I could enjoy the promises, and walk at liberty in my Lord's commands." "If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest." Loose the chains of thy neck, O captive daughter, for Jesus makes thee free.
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Dear FATHER, thank you that ALL THINGS GOOD, come from YOU. Thank you that while we were yet sinners, YOU MADE a WAY, for us to RETURN to YOUR FAVOR. It is through the BLOOD BOUGHT ANOINTING of JESUS, that we have yielded and can commune with YOU. It took a little FAITH, and how that FAITH INCREASES over time! Thank you FATHER, for showing us the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE, in YOUR HOLY WORD. Increase our FAITH, so that we may be able to do greater things, than we are doing, at do it for YOUR GLORY and for YOUR GOOD WILL. Teach us FATHER, how to be Children, of FAITH, and through our FAITH, use us, in the WORK that YOU HAVE SET before us. Let there be less of me, and more of JESUS in the coming hours, days, weeks and years, that have been allotted to me. Like Jabez, I want to be used, to INCREASE YOUR KINGDOM. Let each of YOUR Children, grow in the desire to SERVE YOU, WILLINGLY. Keep our feet firmly planted upon the NARROW PATH, that leads us to YOUR THRONE of GRACE, MERCY and LOVE. Let us be in constant PRAISE; with JOY UNSPEAKABLE and FULL of GLORY. Let YOUR WORD, become our words, so that when we speak, it is YOU that others hear. Let us lay down our heavy burdens, at YOUR THRONE, and BE ABOUT our FATHER'S BUSINESS. Let this be a day, in which YOU POUR OUT AFRESH, the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING, upon YOUR Children. Let us keep our eyes upon JESUS, and our heart and mind, focused upon YOUR WORD, and the task of our hands, in the LABOR of YOUR FIELDS, which are ripe and ready to be HARVESTED. Thank you FATHER, FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING, and WILL DO. Let YOUR WILL BE DONE. IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer

from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
Proverbs 23:7 - "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
There was a sign in a business that said, “We are not what we think we are; what we think — we are.” What are you allowing into your mind that is thereby controlling your heart, your actions, and your words? God made you so that you can’t think two thoughts at one time. If you’re thinking what’s right, you can’t be thinking what’s wrong. And as you think, you will become. Guard your mind. Center your mind upon the Lord Jesus. Don’t let the devil take away your pure-hearted devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. Stay in love with Jesus and there won’t be any room for those filthy, dirty, wicked, lascivious, lustful, and prideful thoughts that bombard us all.
ACTION POINT:
Start today to become more active in marshalling your thoughts and bringing them into obedience to Christ (2 Cor. 10:5). Use Phil. 4:8 as a sieve through which you pass each thought.

Travel Companions: Faith and Obedience
1 Kings 18:1-15
Faith and obedience are travel companions heading to the same “destination”—namely, to please and glorify the Lord. You cannot have one without the other. They grow simultaneously as they are practiced, but will wither if neglected.
Elijah was a man with both of these qualities. He believed God and consistently responded in obedience. When the Lord said to show himself to King Ahab, he didn’t permit fear to stop him. He had learned through experience that the Father was faithful and trustworthy.
Fear short-circuits faith when we begin to doubt that God’s way is really best. If we allow worry to gain a foothold in our minds, we’ll respond by refusing to do what the Lord says, which is disobedience. The result will be a change in our “travel plans”—by rejecting the way of faith and obedience, we’re actually choosing the path of unbelief and sin.
Satan loves our fear and disobedience because they hinder the journey that God has designed for us. We can’t believe the Lord for great things in one area of our life if we are allowing sin in another. Self-examination is essential in the walk of faith. Where have you compromised by allowing sin a foothold? Are you resisting anything that God says in His Word?
Great faith begins with small steps. When you choose to follow God’s Word, an ever-increasing cycle of faith and obedience will begin. Don’t let fear or sin rob you of the great adventure He’s planned for your life. Who has a better track record for choosing the right path—you or God? Believe Him!

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"He hath commanded His covenant for ever."—Psalms 111:9.
THE Lord's people delight in the covenant itself. It is an unfailing source of consolation to them so often as the Holy Spirit leads them into its banqueting house and waves its banner of love. They delight to contemplate the antiquity of that covenant, remembering that before the day-star knew its place, or planets ran their round, the interests of the saints were made secure in Christ Jesus. It is peculiarly pleasing to them to remember the sureness of the covenant, while meditating upon "the sure mercies of David." They delight to celebrate it as "signed, and sealed, and ratified, in all things ordered well." It often makes their hearts dilate with joy to think of its immutability, as a covenant which neither time nor eternity, life nor death, shall ever be able to violate—a covenant as old as eternity and as everlasting as the Rock of ages. They rejoice also to feast upon the fulness of this covenant, for they see in it all things provided for them. God is their portion, Christ their companion, the Spirit their Comforter, earth their lodge, and heaven their home. They see in it an inheritance reserved and entailed to every soul possessing an interest in its ancient and eternal deed of gift. Their eyes sparkled when they saw it as a treasure-trove in the Bible; but oh! how their souls were gladdened when they saw in the last will and testament of their divine kinsman, that it was bequeathed to them! More especially it is the pleasure of God's people to contemplate the graciousness of this covenant. They see that the law was made void because it was a covenant of works and depended upon merit, but this they perceive to be enduring because grace is the basis, grace the condition, grace the strain, grace the bulwark, grace the foundation, grace the topstone. The covenant is a treasury of wealth, a granary of food, a fountain of life, a store-house of salvation, a charter of peace, and a haven of joy.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"The people, when they beheld Him, were greatly amazed, and running to Him saluted Him."—Mark 9:15.
HOW great the difference between Moses and Jesus! When the prophet of Horeb had been forty days upon the mountain, he underwent a kind of transfiguration, so that his countenance shone with exceeding brightness, and he put a veil over his face, for the people could not endure to look upon his glory. Not so our Saviour. He had been transfigured with a greater glory than that of Moses, and yet, it is not written that the people were blinded by the blaze of His countenance, but rather they were amazed, and running to Him they saluted Him. The glory of the law repels, but the greater glory of Jesus attracts. Though Jesus is holy and just, yet blended with His purity there is so much of truth and grace, that sinners run to Him amazed at His goodness, fascinated by His love; they salute Him, become His disciples, and take Him to be their Lord and Master. Reader, it may be that just now you are blinded by the dazzling brightness of the law of God. You feel its claims on your conscience, but you cannot keep it in your life. Not that you find fault with the law, on the contrary, it commands your profoundest esteem, still you are in nowise drawn by it to God; you are rather hardened in heart, and are verging towards desperation. Ah, poor heart! turn thine eye from Moses, with all his repelling splendour, and look to Jesus, resplendent with milder glories. Behold His flowing wounds and thorn-crowned head! He is the Son of God, and therein He is greater than Moses, but He is the Lord of love, and therein more tender than the lawgiver. He bore the wrath of God, and in His death revealed more of God's justice than Sinai on a blaze, but that justice is now vindicated, and henceforth it is the guardian of believers in Jesus. Look, sinner, to the bleeding Saviour, and as thou feelest the attraction of His love, fly to His arms, and thou shalt be saved.
TRUTH + GRACE + LOVE = COVENANT (JESUS)
Re: Entering in to a 40 day prayer
Dear FATHER, we thank you for YOUR WORD, which gives us LIGHT to our PATH. Guide us in TRUE UNDERSTANDING and WISDOM of YOUR WORD. Guide us to the place, where FAITH and OBEDIENCE becomes one, in our Christian WALK.Thank you for the COVENANT made through JESUS, where we find, TRUTH, GRACE, MERCY and LOVE. Thank you for making a way for us to be REDEEMED, through the BLOOD PURCHASE of JESUS. Thank you for the HOLY SPIRIT ANOINTING, which guides us in ALL THINGS, including what we do or say. Help us to become YOUR CHILDREN, in OBEDIENCE to YOUR WORD, and show the world, the LOVE that YOU HAVE FREELY GIVEN us. This is not obedience, as most would understand, but it is LIBERTY and FREEDOM, from sin. Make us into VESSELS that YOU can use. Guide all that we do or say, and let it be EDIFYING unto YOU. Let YOUR WORD, become our words. Hide YOUR WORD, within our hearts and minds. Open our ears and eyes, so that we can see the world as YOU see it. Let us have a desire, to work the FIELDS RIPE with HARVEST, and reach the lost and dying world, for CHRIST JESUS. LORD, let us not waste time, in doing YOUR WORK. Let us LABOR in YOUR FIELDS, starting today. Teach us YOUR WORD, that does not come back void. Build up our FAITH, so that we will not fail, YOUR GOOD WILL. Thank you for all YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING and WILL DO. YOUR WILL BE DONE, IN JESUS NAME, AMEN.

Life throws many opportunities and trials our way. Through our successes and failures, the authenticity of our faith is always being tested. It's not just our words that matter. It's our genuine responses and actions that also speak to whether our faith is real.

Day 17
Aug. 27, 2009
Double-Minded Service
1 Kings 18:16-21
The Old Testament presents idolatry as a serious issue, but who in the modern civilized world gives it much thought? The worship of idols seems archaic, but the truth is, all of us will struggle with this heart issue.
During the days of King Ahab, Israel was pulled in two directions. They'd previously served the Lord, but Ahab had recently instituted Baal worship. When Elijah challenged the people to make up their minds about whom to serve, they were speechless.
You may be thinking, This doesn't apply to my life, but modern idols come in many different forms. When we depend on--or give priority to--anything besides the Lord, it becomes our god.
Does something in your life have a higher value than the Lord? He gives us relationships, possessions, and meaningful work, but we are constantly tempted to cherish the gifts more than the Giver. An accurate measure of priorities is the use of our time. Do you reserve a part of each day for God, or is every minute consumed by the demands of life?
On what or whom do you depend? The Lord gives us His strength and provision, but so often we choose to rely on ourselves, others, or even money. The tendency to worry or control is a sign of self-reliance rather than dependence upon God.
Double-minded service will not work (Matt. 6:24). We must make up our minds and follow through with actions. If we really believe that the God of the Bible is the only true God, we ought to give Him our whole life, follow Him faithfully, and serve Him with all our gifts and abilities.

Your Adversary, the Devil
from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
Ephesians 6:12 - "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against ... the rulers of the darkness of this world."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
There is a ruthless, cruel underworld system that wars against you. The crime bosses are but amateurs compared to this syndicate, ruled by the Master of Deception. He’s called the “destroyer,” “liar,” “accuser,” “tempter,” and “prince.” Satan is indescribably wicked, brilliantly stupid, and hideously beautiful. If he can’t convince you that he does not exist, then he tries to spread the lie that he is only in hell. He is not in hell. Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels, but he is not there yet! Be warned . . . Satan comes against you to obsess, depress, and possess. But, be encouraged . . . Jesus has purchased your victory by His blood!
ACTION POINT:
Satan is portrayed as a roaring lion in 1 Peter 5:8. Put on the full armor of God (Eph. 6:10-18) and claim the victory that only faith in King Jesus can achieve.

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"How long will it be ere they believe me?"—Numbers 14:11.
STRIVE with all diligence to keep out that monster unbelief. It so dishonours Christ, that He will withdraw His visible presence if we insult Him by indulging it. It is true it is a weed, the seeds of which we can never entirely extract from the soil, but we must aim at its root with zeal and perseverance. Among hateful things it is the most to be abhorred. Its injurious nature is so venomous that he that exerciseth it and he upon whom it is exercised are both hurt thereby. In thy case, O believer! it is most wicked, for the mercies of thy Lord in the past, increase thy guilt in doubting Him now. When thou dost distrust the Lord Jesus, He may well cry out, "Behold I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves." This is crowning His head with thorns of the sharpest kind. It is very cruel for a well-beloved wife to mistrust a kind and faithful husband. The sin is needless, foolish, and unwarranted. Jesus has never given the slightest ground for suspicion, and it is hard to be doubted by those to whom our conduct is uniformly affectionate and true. Jesus is the Son of the Highest, and has unbounded wealth; it is shameful to doubt Omnipotence and distrust all-sufficiency. The cattle on a thousand hills will suffice for our most hungry feeding, and the granaries of heaven are not likely to be emptied by our eating. If Christ were only a cistern, we might soon exhaust His fulness, but who can drain a fountain? Myriads of spirits have drawn their supplies from Him, and not one of them has murmured at the scantiness of His resources. Away, then, with this lying traitor unbelief, for his only errand is to cut the bonds of communion and make us mourn an absent Saviour. Bunyan tells us that unbelief has "as many lives as a cat:" if so, let us kill one life now, and continue the work till the whole nine are gone. Down with thee, thou traitor, my heart abhors thee.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"Into Thine hand I commit my spirit: Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth."—Psalm 31:5.
THESE words have been frequently used by holy men in their hour of departure. We may profitably consider them this evening. The object of the faithful man's solicitude in life and death is not his body or his estate, but his spirit; this is his choice treasure—if this be safe, all is well. What is this mortal state compared with the soul? The believer commits his soul to the hand of his God; it came from Him, it is His own, He has aforetime sustained it, He is able to keep it, and it is most fit that He should receive it. All things are safe in Jehovah's hands; what we entrust to the Lord will be secure, both now and in that day of days towards which we are hastening. It is peaceful living, and glorious dying, to repose in the care of heaven. At all times we should commit our all to Jesus' faithful hand; then, though life may hang on a thread, and adversities may multiply as the sands of the sea, our soul shall dwell at ease, and delight itself in quiet resting places.
"Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth." Redemption is a solid basis for confidence. David had not known Calvary as we have done, but temporal redemption cheered him; and shall not eternal redemption yet more sweetly console us? Past deliverances are strong pleas for present assistance. What the Lord has done He will do again, for He changes not. He is faithful to His promises, and gracious to His saints; He will not turn away from His people.
"Though Thou slay me I will trust,
Praise Thee even from the dust,
Prove, and tell it as I prove,
Thine unutterable love.
Thou mayst chasten and correct,
But Thou never canst neglect;
Since the ransom price is paid,
On Thy love my hope is stay'd."

Day 18

Building Muscles of Faith
1 Kings 18:22-36
"I wish I had great faith." These are words that almost every Christian has said at one time or another. But faith is like a muscle, which must be exercised in order to become strong; just wishing cannot make it happen.
Christians are to believe God, not only for salvation but for everything. Rather than a spiritual "plateau," faith is actually a process that involves increasing degrees of trust throughout life. Little faith hopes that God will do what He says; strong faith knows that He will; and great faith believes that He has already done it.
Elijah was a man of great faith. He saw increased challenges as opportunities for God to do His work--and the prophet believed Him for the supernatural. So can you. The Lord may not do every miraculous thing you ask of Him, but He does some extraordinary work in and through each person who is obedient and willing to trust in Him.
You may be thinking, I am not good enough for the Father to use me. The Scriptures are filled with examples of weak and flawed people whom the Lord used to achieve His purposes. He is looking, not for perfection, but for individuals willing to believe Him. He not only works through people of faith; He transforms them.
Start by reading God's Word to learn what He wants you to do. Each day's situations and needs are opportunities to trust Him. Ask the Lord to bring to mind verses that apply to your circumstances. Trust Him and do what He says--your faith "muscles" will grow, and He will be glorified.

BIBLE MEDITATION:
Ephesians 2:8 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
How can you tell whether or not you have the true gospel? Paul gives you three tests. First, the source of the gospel. Where did it come from? God gave it. It is direct and divine revelation. The gospel is authenticated by its source. Secondly, by its salvation. Any gospel that is not the gospel of grace is not the true gospel. You can’t beg it. You can’t buy it. You can’t borrow it. You can’t steal it. You can’t earn it. It was bought by Christ on the cross. It is the supernatural work of God. The third test is its subject. It is the grace of Christ. Jesus is the subject. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is all about Jesus.
ACTION POINT:
Take an hour or two this week and find the prophecies of Jesus in the book of Isaiah. Take comfort in knowing that Jesus is the One Who was, Who is, and Who is to come!

This Morning's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"Oil for the light."—Exodus 25:6.
MY soul, how much thou needest this, for thy lamp will not long continue to burn without it. Thy snuff will smoke and become an offence if light be gone, and gone it will be if oil be absent. Thou hast no oil well springing up in thy human nature, and therefore thou must go to them that sell and buy for thyself, or like the foolish virgins, thou wilt have to cry, "My lamp is gone out." Even the consecrated lamps could not give light without oil; though they shone in the tabernacle they needed to be fed, though no rough winds blew upon them they required to be trimmed, and thy need is equally as great. Under the most happy circumstances thou canst not give light for another hour unless fresh oil of grace be given thee.
It was not every oil that might be used in the Lord's service; neither the petroleum which exudes so plentifully from the earth, nor the produce of fishes, nor that extracted from nuts would be accepted; one oil only was selected, and that the best olive oil. Pretended grace from natural goodness, fancied grace from priestly hands, or imaginary grace from outward ceremonies will never serve the true saint of God; he knows that the Lord would not be pleased with rivers of such oil. He goes to the olive-press of Gethsemane, and draws his supplies from Him who was crushed therein. The oil of gospel grace is pure and free from lees and dregs, and hence the light which is fed thereon is clear and bright. Our churches are the Saviour's golden candelabra, and if they are to be lights in this dark world, they must have much holy oil. Let us pray for ourselves, our ministers, and our churches, that they may never lack oil for the light. Truth, holiness, joy, knowledge, love, these are all beams of the sacred light, but we cannot give them forth unless in private we receive oil from God the Holy Ghost.

This Evening's Meditation
C. H. Spurgeon
"Sing, O barren."—Isaiah 54:1.
THOUGH we have brought forth some fruit unto Christ, and have a joyful hope that we are "plants of His own right hand planting," yet there are times when we feel very barren. Prayer is lifeless, love is cold, faith is weak, each grace in the garden of our heart languishes and droops. We are like flowers in the hot sun, requiring the refreshing shower. In such a condition what are we to do? The text is addressed to us in just such a state. "Sing, O barren, break forth and cry aloud." But what can I sing about? I cannot talk about the present, and even the past looks full of barrenness. Ah! I can sing of Jesus Christ. I can talk of visits which the Redeemer has aforetimes paid to me; or if not of these, I can magnify the great love wherewith He loved His people when He came from the heights of heaven for their redemption. I will go to the cross again. Come, my soul, heavy laden thou wast once, and thou didst lose thy burden there. Go to Calvary again. Perhaps that very cross which gave thee life may give thee fruitfulness. What is my barrenness? It is the platform for His fruit-creating power. What is my desolation? It is the black setting for the sapphire of His everlasting love. I will go in poverty, I will go in helplessness, I will go in all my shame and backsliding, I will tell Him that I am still His child, and in confidence in His faithful heart, even I, the barren one, will sing and cry aloud.
Sing, believer, for it will cheer thine own heart, and the hearts of other desolate ones. Sing on, for now that thou art really ashamed of being barren, thou wilt be fruitful soon; now that God makes thee loath to be without fruit He will soon cover thee with clusters. The experience of our barrenness is painful, but the Lord's visitations are delightful. A sense of our own poverty drives us to Christ, and that is where we need to be, for in Him is our fruit found.
