    John 12:1-3King James Version (KJV)
12 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
    John 12:1-3
NSB 1 Six days before the Passover Jesus traveled to Bethany. This was where Lazarus lived. He was the man Jesus raised from the dead. 2 Jesus ate supper there. He and Lazarus sat at the meal while Martha served. 3 Mary took a pound of very precious ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus. She wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the odor of the ointment.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 This was just right before Passover and He still was not in town Jerusalem yet but at His friend’s house. He had a closeness to this family and wanted to see them prior to His death, this shows outside His disciples they may have been the closest to Him even more so than His own town and family. Sometimes we have to go aside to see our close friends and take a break with those we serve with to do something else, we also need to remember even when we take our break our service is not on pause, Christ even taught while He rested at friends house.

2 This dinner was in His honor, He had recently brought back their brother from the dead, it may be a way of thanking Him for this or just giving Him what they can. The women at this time served meals if there were no servants, if their were servants the women would be aided by the servants in serving the food the men would wait on it talking, this was just the culture of the day.

3 To make the house smell of this just shows how much she used, she was not going to keep any but give her all to Jesus, we need to give our all to Jesus and not worry about the cost, nothing had the cost that He gave us with His own life, tasting death that He did not deserve.
