    John 11:55-57King James Version (KJV)
55 And the Jews' Passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?
57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

    John 11:55-57
NSB 55 It was the Jewish Passover. Many went out of the country to Jerusalem to purify themselves before the Passover. 56 They searched for Jesus. They stood in the temple speaking to one another: »What do you think? Will he come to the feast?« 57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that, if any man knew where he was, he should report it that they might seize him.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

55 They would go to the pools to purify and make sure that they were clean prior to going to the temple this was done to allow them to celebrate the Passover. All Jews were required by the Jewish law to come to Passover.

56 Jesus would have went to Passover as everyone else would but arrived much later than everyone else, most arrived a week or two prior to Passover but Jesus came a few days before. They knew how the Pharisees wanted to get rid of Him and they may have thought He would not come for fear of them.

57 Jesus went away because of this but mainly to give His disciples strong teaching. The Pharisees were going to stop Jesus at any cost even if they had to kill Him, it was part of His plan but they would never be able to stop His momentum, not even Saul the Pharisee could stop Christ’s work after killing many Christians, he would later come to the faith he tried to stop and become Paul. Nothing can stop God’s will from happening.
