The Hen House

The Hen House
My huby is soooo handy! These are pictures of the nearly finished hen house. He still has a little more cutting, to do, for the openings to reach into the nest boxes, and covers to make for those openings. He also has to finish fencing the area, that the chikens will have to run about. Then it is on to the painting and filling the nests with fresh straw. We are hoping to purchase our hens, next weekend.
This is the front of the hen house, the walk way ramp is a pallet. We will eventually put a door that closes, for winter months, to help keep the hens a little warmer, during the evening hours.
This is a closeup, of the nesting boxes. There are six on each side, with a total of twelve nesting boxes.
The last picture is a side and rear view of the hen house. It has a screened window, for air cirrculation, that will be covered in the winter months. The extra wire cover is so that the racoons and wild cats, can't get into the hen house, through the window.

Re: The Hen House
We were planning on painting the hen house barn red, but we found this color pain in the opps! section, and it was a lot cheaper. Some hens and two pullets arrived today. Thanks to our neighbor, we now have three hens and two pullets!

Re: The Hen House
I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to get back. I have a few new pictures to post. We had to get rid of a white leggin, because she was being mean to the other hens. She actually killed one. We have replaced them, with Road Island Reds. We also have White Rocks, Barred Rocks, and Black Star's? (I think I got the last one right.) A total of 13 hens, and several already laying age. We have a few hens, that are about 5-6 months old, and will be laying soon. Later today, I will take a few pictures of all of them. They really seem to like the new home, and so far, three nests are being used for laying eggs in.
