Two edged sword
Psalms 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. 5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. 6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; 7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; 8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; 9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.
At first glance a two-edged sword seems like something to avoid, but we need to understand what the two-edged sword is. We see the words, vengeance and punisment, used within this text. But, we can find an answer to what the two-edged sword really is, in Hebrews chapter 4.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
So, when looking back at Psalms 149:6, we now understand that the two-edged sword is the WORD of GOD, and it is placed in the hand of HIS PEOPLE. When looking at Hebrews 4, we know that it is used to pierce the soul and spirit, and in Psalms 149, we know that it is used to execute righteous judgement.
What a mighty WORD of GOD, that we carry. AMEN.
