John 11:49-50
KJV 49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, 50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
Rotherham 49 But, a certain one from among them, Caiaphas, being, High-priest, for that year, said unto them—Ye, know, nothing at all; 50 nor do ye take into account, that it is profitable for you that, one man, should die for the people, and not, the whole nation, perish.
These are my thoughts, please share yours.
49 The high priest was very important but be a role Christ came to do away with. Christ did come to conquer Rome but did fulfill the old covenant which included high priests offering sacrifices. The high priest were rotated from year to year all being sons of Aaron though. He was as blind as Rome was of who Jesus was if not more.
50 Jesus was not just a simple man but far more than just one man. The nation would perish and Rome would later destroy the temple. Many of this would face judgment though from God because they rejected Christ. Christ came to save not cause destruction. One did die to prevent perishing but this is not what he was thinking.
