    Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.~Zephaniah 1:7



    John Wesley Explanatory Notes wrote:Hold thy peace — Thou that murmurest against God, stand in awe.

    The day — A day of vengeance from the Lord.

    A sacrifice — The wicked Jews, whom he will sacrifice by the sword.

    His guests — summoned the beasts of the field, and the fowls of the air, to eat the flesh, and drink the blood.


    Matthew Henry Commentary wrote:The holy God hates sin most in those nearest to him. A sinful state is, and will be, a woful state. Yet they had the tokens of God's presence, and all the advantages of knowing his will, with the strongest reasons to do it; still they persisted in disobedience. Alas, that men often are more active in doing wickedness than believers are in doing good.

    Although this passage of scripture refers to the day upon which the LORD would have with Babylon, it also referred to HIS own people, and their role within the context.  It is meant to strike fear in the hearts of GOD's people, just as JESUS spoke about the tearing down and rebuilding  of the the Temple.  

    For modern day Christianity, Zephaniah reminds us to be quiet in the presence of the LORD, and to watch what HE is doing.  As with some things scripturally speaking, this has a prophetic implementation to the Coming of the LORD, of Revelations. It holds apocalyptic ramifications within this one verse. The lost of the world, will face GOD'S JUDGEMENT.

    Church be ready to stand still and listen to GOD as HE prepares to complete HIS WORD, in the remaining days, weeks, months and/or years.  Until the COMING of JESUS!

    LORD come QUICKLY!
